Good morning everyone - what is the rule of thumb when you get a cancellantion request? I had a bidder that retracted their bid which was a big enough pi$$-off but then this morning I received an email from the original high bidder of the same item, saying that in the 20 minutes that she had been outbid, she found and bid on another pendant and she doesn't need two of them. I gave her what she wanted but I am wondering if I was stupid to do so??

LMK...

Hey Glo - I made out like the proverbial bandit on that piece in the end anyway. So pfftttttt to her, right? But you are SO right about making them do their own dirty work. I don't know WHAT I was thinking that day. I was so distressed that I had had a retraction and then a request for cancellation and I just reacted out of impatience. I did the deed. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely tell them where they could go. It's a funny thing, you just never know which way ebay is going to go, right???

Jaqui...I don't think I have ever seen you here before. If you are new, WELCOME...if you are old, then it's really nice to meet you!!! Cheers :))

LOL, yes....but my mother made a spelling mistake when she registered me at birth.

It's ok though, you have to forgive her...she was on drugs at the time... 🐵

I LOVE telling people that (she HATES it)!!!

What was the mistake? She left out the C??? I think it's kinda unique but it could be a PITA when folks will just normally assume that it is spelled the other way. If it is indeed the missing C. Is it a missing C??

Your Mom did a lot of acid in the 60's??? LOL Sorry Mom, juzzzzzzzzzzzzz kidding!!

Yes, she dropped the C.

In England at the time, the registrar would visit the hospital every couple of days, very early in the morning. I was literally born 1/2 hour before he visited. He asked my mother how she wanted to spell the name, and in her still drugged state she retorted, "The NORMAL way of course!!!" He, with his very stereotypical stiff upper lip replied, "And WHAT is the NORMAL way??" Mom proceeded to spell, but Demerol just doesnt help with spelling I guess. LOL

I love it now...love the uniqueness of it. Best of all, when I lived in Quebec, there were always HUGE lineups to renew your drivers liscence...unless there was a mistake on the form they sent you....and they ALWAYS "corrected" the spelling of my name, so I got to go in the short line-up. LOL

What a riot - I was just there 2 days ago and I had no such luck. But you know - I recall a story from my deceased mother-in-law who was born in Gaspe in the 1920's. In those days, the old priests had their ways with things and did what they pleased. My m-i-l's mother wanted to name her baby Bernetta but the priest had other ideas. He figured that Bernetta was not a saint's name so he changed it to Bernadette without consulting the family...which wouldn't have made a diff anyway. So...it didn't matter much until later in life when she needed to get a passport. All of her everyday IDs like drivers license and health card had HER name on it but her Birth Certificate had the other name and so she had to apply for a name change, lest she start travelling with an alias. She got it done, but it cost her money and she had to explain it all...what a bore.

The same kind of thing happened to my ex-husband. His parents wanted to call him Roderick...but the priest didnt know how to spell it(LOL....another drug case perhaps???), so he got called Rodrigue instead...and he HATES it.

I came onto the discussion forum for some assistance and found this forum discussion is right in line with my problem.
Someone pressed the Buy It Now for one of my items this morning and emailed me (and provided their phone number) immediately stating they did this in error that all they wanted to do was place a bid. How do I get this reversed without going thru the 10 day notice to get my fees back and to get the auction reinstated?
I sent eBay a request for assistance and received their "It could take 36 hours to answer you" automated emails back,
Fortunately there was only 1 other bidder as the auction was only oneline for less than a day.

Hi amber,

From what I have been told by eBay, there is no way to reverse a BIN. I had a similar one happen to me. If the previous bid was high enough for you, you can send a second chance offer, and try to re-coupe the sale that way...but the rest you will have to go through the whole NPB/FVF credit stuff.

Amber - you can't get it rerversed. It just ain't gonna happen. It's a done deal. But, if you are positive that your button pusher is not going to complete the transaction, you can relist it immediately or offer it to the underbidder which prolly isn't the best idea. I know it's a PITA but it happened and you just have to roll with it. You will still have to wait the standard amount of time to file for fees tho. You may want to tell your buyer that you will be doing that and that goes on their record - 3 strikes yer out - she may decide to complete the btransaction afterall.

Good luck,

Jackie...

I've never been to Quebec City but I've heard that it is actually THE most beautiful city in North America.....very European. I think I was near it last week, driving through from Ontario to NS. I do hope to get there some day. Do many people speak English there Jackie? I don't speak French (flunked it in school).

Is English your first language? I wish I had learned French in school but the way they taught us back then was ridiculous. Sat us in front of a projecter with these stupid slides of some family name the Thibeous (sp?) and then you'd repeat something like Voila Miseur Thibeous..........Voila Madame Thibeous, etc. etc. (don't mind my spelling.......lol)

I HATED IT!! To make matters worse, we were taught Parisian French.

Thanks all for your assistance. I wish that eBay was as helpful and as quick as my fellow Power Sellers.
I tried to make the guy an offer to buy it for less but the deal was still out of his price range for what he wanted the item for, he had hoped to get it for around 50% of the BIN through the auction process.
I will just relist, as suggested and go through the non-payor route but indicate that it was a mutual agreement.
I realize that eBay doesnt want to encourage or make reversals easy as it means lost revenue for them but you think that as Power Sellers eBay would trust us and could give us the same respect for our integrity and honestly as they tell customers to have for us.

Deb - ROFL...you are pretty funny, I have to say. Yes QC is an incredible city. It's very old and well preserved (much like myself) and it is indeed very European. It's full of very old style architecture and the culture is quite enchanting. I especially love the Terrasses in the summer, where you can sit and eat lunch and have a nice cold beer in the fresh air and sunshine. Then in the evenings, the horse/buggy rides thru the old city are so nice.

In the burbs, there isn't much English spoken nor are there many English people. There is one suburb that is an Anglophone community and it just happens to be the most affluent community in the area. But...in Old Quebec, everyone speaks English. They have to, it's their bread and butter. Most people are very helpful too, toward lost tourists and such. It's quite a grand place. Both summer and winter (Carnival) are filled with tourists. There is NO off season here. People come from all over the world to visit us. And, the majority are Pacific Rimmers. Skiing is incredible and the mountains and St. Lawrence river are beautiful, too.

I am perfectly bilingual. I was raised in Montreal where folks speak both languages and when they speak English, there is no French accent and vice versa. The only throwback is my sweety. He is perfectly bilingual (Military) but he has quite a heavy French accent. But, that is just charming to me.

You're right about the teaching of French in the schools. As far as I can remember, I didn't learn a damned thing in school. I learned it all in practice. By living my life. So, don't feel bad Deb - I am willing to bet the farm that you aren't the only person who found the lessons bogus 🙂
