Canada has very high rates for 'confirmed' shipping, so I tell Buyers that I will send items without tracking, but only on the understanding that if not received, I'm not responsible. They have to agree to the terms in an email, or it gets invoiced with confirmation, no exceptions. 80% of my Buyers order without tracking and to date, ALL have received their items, not one lost or broken. 😄 Funny how they don't go missing when it's the Buyer taking the risk... 😉

I think you have been lucky so far. You will be responsible for a refund should a buyer file a claim.
Scammers know how to work the system, & whether they agree to your terms or not Paypal will refund them unless you can provide a tracking number.
Pretty risky my friend.

This thread is from 9 years ago but according to a couple of posts that I scanned over, sellers had pretty much the same problems then that we do now.
dreamcatcher, BB is right, it doesn't matter what you have the buyer to agree to....if a buyer does not receive an item the seller is responsible unless you have show that through delivery confirmation that the item was received. Personally, I think that it is better that you do not mention that there is no delivery confirmation.
Also...do you know that most or all of your listings are not showing the cost of shipping to the U.S. or for many other countries? That really affects their search placement especially on .com.
The reason that the calculated shipping is not working is that you have the calculator set to International Parcel Air and that service doesn't exist to the U.S. or to many other countries. If you set it up to use small packet air USA and small packet international, it should work.

I should mention that neither of those services have insurance or delivery confirmation though. If you want that, then you will have to look at using expedited or tracked packet to the US and tracked packet or xpresspost to other countries. TP is only available to a limited amount of places though.

It's somehow comforting to remember that the "good old days" weren't.
