I have been watching the threads of people complaining about buying items from China, Russia or USA under GSP for a couple of years now and I thought I would add my 2 cents.
CHINA - They buy from China, then complain that the item doesn't work, broke in a short time, never received it and so on. Many of the items that are being sold from China are Dollar Store stuff and many contain toxins and lead. I personally would never buy anything that is electrical, stuff to eat or anything that touches food, candles to burn, stuff that touches my skin such as jewelry, toys, etc. There are so many newspaper articles, tv shows about the dangers and yet people continue to buy because it is cheap. I myself check where something was made and usually buy vintage to ensure it was made in USA, Canada or Europe. The old saying is you get what you pay for, but your saving now may affect you or your family health down the line.

RUSSIA - I have seen a few buyers recently purchase an item from Russia with a seller who has zero or very low feedback. The seller sends them a false tracking number and then disappears with their money. The buyer pursues the item because it is such a good deal. After a month goes by they do not hear from the seller after numerous emails. The tracking number is bogus. Personally I have been to Russia and I would never buy anything from there, no matter how good the deal is. Without getting into it, I advise you unless it is a trusted ebay seller in Russia, I would AVOID them, even if the deal is too good to be true. Your time, your sanity is worth more and the fact that you can get scammed is very high
USA under GSP - Many sellers in the US do not like to ship outside of the USA, why should they, the population of the US is 319 million. Ebay brought in the GSP so that the seller would still just ship to the USA and then the GSP would do the rest and handle the risk. The seller puts in what it cost to ship to Kentucky and then the rest of the shipping cost and the duties and taxes are handled by the GSP. The GSP program ships the parcels in a huge container to Canada and from there it goes to the buyer. Buyers can complain about it as much as they want on .ca but .ca has nothing to do with it, if you are going to complain about it, you have to do it on .com. I can't see the US sellers really caring that much, they really only want to ship to the US anyways.
So get used to it, it is not going to change, buy from a Canadian, or buy only from US sellers that do not use GSP.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm giving this a bump up especially for those new buyers who have problems/questions regarding buying from China, Russia, or the USA under GSP.

Complaining on the .com boards will only bring out the ranters who are always ready to explain to you why Canadians are such bad buyers and why it would probably be better if we just collectively fell off the eBay earth. Posting complaints about the GSP there is about as useful as whistling in a hurricane.
Vote with your wallet, your back button and your scrolling bar. And keep in mind that every time you "hold your nose" and buy a GSP item because you "just can't live without it", you contribute to the program's success.
