Can a seller cuss words lie IDIOT in response to a bid? Can a seller change the Buy it Now price from say 225 $ to $ 1000 within a few hours

I originallly bid $ 150 on an item listed for $ 225. I received an abusive email. I tried to increase the price to $ 195 but the seller would not allow me to bid. So I asked my wife to bid on this item on her account for $ 195 and we got a message "... IDIOT"" and the original Buy It Now price of $ 225 changed to $ 1000. I am perplexed. Have a 100% rating on ebay. All we wanted to do was buy the item at a price I thought was approriate. Been on ebay for many many years. Most disconcerting was the use of inappropiate language.

Why would you want to deal with a person who is so bugugly aggressively unwilling to sell to you?

You dodged a bullet be thankful.

Sellers are allowed to protect themselves from unwanted bids by cancelling pretty well any bid without having to disclose the reason.

While this seller was rude about your bid (did he not want bidders from Canada? that's not unusual, although most sellers are more gracious about it.) the cancellation and the block should have been enough indication that you were not welcome. Having your wife bid for you is actually not allowed and the seller could report you and either you or your wife penalized for trying to circumvent the block.

The seller is apparently bright enough to realize that two bids from the same city (or possibly server) but not bright enough to act like a grown up.

Do you mean you made an offer rather than a bid?

Seller may have considered your offer a low ball but does not excuse the juvenile response. As femmefan stated .. not someone you should want to buy from.

If it were a Best Offer listing, your $150 was in insult. However, the seller did not need to respond at all because Best Offers can either be declined or allowed to expire.

Most sellers ignore lowball offers which is what your seller should have done but maybe they had a bunch of lowball offers and decided to take out on you.

Non paying buyers deserve unpaid item strikes.
