Can't ask seller for an accurate price for shipping

I've recently added a bunch of Buy It Now items to my cart. They're all from the same seller, and the seller offers combined shipping, as well as shipping discounts.

Here's where things start to break down. eBay is doing a TERRIBLE job of calculating the total for shipping. That's not the issue, as after all the calculator doesn't magically know how the purchased items will pack into a box. It just tallies things up as best it can, and it's up to the buyer and seller to sort things out.

EXCEPT I CAN'T. Because there are (poorly calculated) shipping discounts, eBay prohibits me from asking the seller for a true, accurate total. The only options I have are to [a] empty my cart and forget about buying the goods, or [b] get royally screwed on shipping, paying $175 for what will realistically cost about $30 to ship.

Is there a workaround? Or am I doomed to be shafted by what seems a cash grab on eBay's part, with their Final Value Fees on (inflated) shipping costs?

When you say that you can't ask the seller do you mean that there is no ask for invoice function or are you saying that you haven't been able to message the seller? If you can message the seller, ask them if they will put all of the items you want into one listing with one shipping cost so that  you can purchase them that way.

The "ask for invoice" function is greyed out.

Sending a message to the seller was possible, as would be expected, and I've done so. However, I haven't any response.
