I find that international light or small packet almost always get there very quickly; and much faster than to Canada or the U.S.
This actually makes sense......here's an example.
You drop a Small Packet Air (going to the uk) at the post office (in the GTA) at 2:00pm, it many cases this will be on a an evening flight out of Pearson and will arrive in the UK the following morning, if the processing through UK customs is smooth it will be in the domestic UK delivery stream the next day with delivery the following day (total 4 days).
You drop a domestic Expedited package (going to Vancouver) at the Post Office at 2:00pm (also in the GTA), that evening it will be loaded on a truck, sometime the following day the truck will be full and will head West, 4 days later it will arrive in Vancouver and enter the local delivery stream with delivery likely within 2 days (total 7 days).
The problem with packages going to the USA is the very slow processing of incoming mail from Canada, this is partially due to security measures and partially due to the high volume of mail between Canada and the USA.
