Do you feel it is unethical for a buyer from a country you do not ship to to use an address in one y

Do you feel it is unethical for a buyer from a country you do not ship to, to use an address in one you do ship to only have the item forwarded to his country? 

 

 This invites additional time and risk after the original transaction has been completed to the first address. We feel it is only fair in this case (questionable ethics aside and proceeding with transaction in good faith) that the buyer communicate and/or leave feedback at that (original) destination regarding transaction being good and complete before forwarding item to final country.

 

 We of course understand that the buyer, if still in overseas country, cannot judge item for themselves, but they are the ones subverting rules technically and should incur risk and/or have someone there to be able to inspect items for 'as advertised" condition

 

 For us in Canada, shipping overseas is extremely cost and time prohibitive so we end up having cases opened against us in time frames (3 weeks) only half of expected delivery standards (8 weeks in some cases) and when the item arrives we never receive any communication or feedback as buyers are by that time upset, although all info regarding delivery standards has been clearly communicated.

 

 . This is not fair play in our books as we should not be held responsible for transit times of carriers when we have handed item to said carrier sometimes within a few hours of receiving payment!.

 

 This has happened on many occasions and we have had Paypal acct frozen (on large sums too) and also have our sellers standards reduced meaning incurred additional sellers fees.  Not fair, agree?

 

 We would certainly appreciate other members input on this subject as I am sure we are not alone in this.

Unethical?  Definitely not.

 

Over the years I have serviced hundreds of buyers located in Eastern Europe (often using dropship in Brooklyn) or from Central America (using dropship in Miami).

 

These buyers often do not have access to the American market because many American sellers did not want to ship to Eastern Europe and/or Central/South America.  They have set up those forwarders to handle their purchases and reship to them.  For most, it was the only way they had to acquire goods from the USA.

 

Things are changing now with eBay's Global Shipping Program (from the USA) but many foreign buyers have long been set up for a forwarder and continue to use that method.

 

Buyers pay extra for the privilege.  Unethical?  I do not see why.

Do I think it is unethical....no.  I am sure that there are a lot of Canadians who buy items in the U.S. and use a forwarding company to have them sent here. To be honest, I've sent many items to forwarders and I haven't had a problem so I as far as I know, it is not a common problem.

 

However, your responsibility should end once the item is delivered to the address that you were given. According to the ebay Money Back Guarantee, an item that has been forwarded is not eligible for buyer protection. But I haven't been able to find a similar rule for Paypal disputes.

Not covered

  • Buyer's remorse or any reason other than not receiving an item or receiving an item that isn't as described in the listing (see the seller's return policy for return options).

  • Items damaged during pick-up or shipping or not delivered when the buyer arranges pick-up or shipping of the item (for instance, the buyer arranges freight).

  • Duplicate claims through other resolution methods.

  • Items shipped to another address after original delivery.

  • Vehicles (see eBay Vehicle Protection), Real Estate, Websites & Business for Sale, Classified Ads, services, and some Business Equipment categories (see eBay Business Equipment Purchase Protection).

But in the case of an INR ebay dispute, you would still have to show proof of delivery to the original address and if the buyer claimed snad, you would have to be able to show that the item was forwarded.

 

In many cases an international buyer will be making the purchase on their site in which case they would probably file a Paypal case so the ebay.com rule may not help.
