Does my current bid increase?

If I place a bid of $1 with a max of $10, and the next person places a $2 bid, does my current bid stay at $1, or move above $2?

Your bid becomes $2.25.  Have a look at the following link about bid increments, it shows how the bids go up depending on the amount:
