This is my first request for a cancellation in ions. How do I go about this with the new defect regulations?

I appreciate the help. Thank you.

Help. Need to cancel sale for customer but not sure of the correct way?

I had to do same for customer, 1 week ago, chose buyer made mistake or changed mind. It still ended up as a defect, E-bay in their wisdom seems to give a defect for any seller initiated cancellations, for whatever reason, The buyer should start the cancellation process if that is possible under the rules and regulations.

That's exactly what I just did. You got a defect? Great.  I got the postage on it but not yet in the mail when she cancelled.

Would it be better just to refund the money and not go after the FVF? In other words, not cancel the transaction thus avoiding a defect..

I'm starting to think if a buyer wants a cancellation, they will have to initiate process, so the seller doesn't get a defect. E-bay is going to have to re-think this process, as it going to have a lot of sellers miffed and probably angry. If as a seller you check "buyer mistake or changed mind" , that should be the end of it. No defect issued. I guess we'll all see as more and more cancellation requests are made from buyers.

This question was raised with eBay.ca staff last Wednesday during the Weekly Board Hour:

Thanks, somewhat enlightning, but there should be a much easier way get through this process. Oh to build a better mousetrap. Logic would seem to dictate people buy things, then later decide they don't really need item for reasons of their own choice and so be it. No-one should be penalized [ may be harsh wording] as such. The system of cancellations needs to be streamlined much better to suit the needs of both the seller and buyer. Paper trail & phone calls to E-bay for unjustified defects seems to be a lot of extra dealings for something that should be so simple and problem free.

You shouldn't have received a defect if you used that option. Did the buyer ask you to cancel the transaction?

If you refund in full and do not file a cancellation, you will definitely get a defect.

Help. Need to cancel sale for customer but not sure of the correct way?

Hi, yes the buyer requested cancellation thru E-bay message\respond communication system , although I initiated it and checked box " buyer made mistake or changed mind ". Defect showed up as out of stock/sold to another, which of course wasn't correct. I have also read other posts from other member's that have had the same results as this. With the new system E-bay may need how to crawl before they can walk. Hopefully they get this remedied in the near future. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I did cancel for the buyer but did not receive a defect - not yet anyway. She agreed to cancel.

You took the right steps, and should not have got a defect.  However, you're right that other sellers seem to be reporting erroneous defects.  Check your seller dashboard after Aug. 20th and if the defect hasn't been removed, contact eBay and persist until it is.

By the way, just to clarify, a buyer cannot initiate a cancellation (only sellers can initiate the process), but eBay says that the buyer must ask the seller for the cancellation first.  I you have that "ask" in writing (in eBay messages) and you choose the correct cancellation reason, then you should not get a defect.

So it's really a two-pronged process.  If you don't get the "ask" from the buyer before cancelling, you may get a defect, and may have trouble getting it removed.

Help. Need to cancel sale for customer but not sure of the correct way?

I just spoke with  eBay about an undeserved defect I got last week. I was told that the 20 Aug evaluation will not erase these defects automatically, and  I WILL HAVE TO CALL BACK after 20 August and request a review of the defect.   CS told me to expect a very busy phone line on 20 Aug.  I remain patient but mired in confusion...
