Help to Configure CP Desktop Software

I would call CP tech help on this one, but seeing that it is Saturday and their technical support is only M-F, I am posting this request for help here and hope someone can rectify my query.....

I am new to the CP desktop software, and although I think it is crappy..... (another issue in another thread I started) here is my problem....

I am trying to ship a parcel to the US using the CP desktop software. I have selected USA Small Parcel Surface and completed all address info and the customs declarations...

Now, when I go to print the label, etc, I get an error message:
(3136) There is no configured barcode range for selected service. Please configure the barcode ranges before clicking Process/Print.

Now when I go into tools and Barcode Ranges, there is no product group showing for Small Parcel USA.... (in my configuration I did check off print labels for USA).

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

Jeff there is an area, in the softwear were you add the numbers 51 into each section for the bar codes . It's the only place were you check mark the service you want and then add numbers ...place 51 in each one

Sorry wish i could help more , but this spot you speak of ..you need to add numbers .

Can you be a little more specific as to where I might be adding these numbers?

I know I didn't have to add any numbers to get bar codes issued for Expedited Labels within Canada, but it is system generated.

Thanks

If you go to Barcode Range Maintenance, there isn't even a heading to manage bar codes for Small Package USA Surface or Air.....

This is great software.... takes hours to load and hours to figure out.....

Just wanted to let all know that I am now on hold with CP technical support.... I have been on a hold loop for about 20 minutes and I think I will only be here for another 2-3 hours before my query is answered.

Well, finally got through to CP technical help today and they gave me the fix to configure bar-code ranges for US bound shipments.

It was easy, as mentioned in an earlier reply to my query from chic-shopper (just not enough info as to where to enter the frequency number).

If anyone else is running into this problem, here is the fix.....

(okay I am now launching the CP desktop shipping program, it takes about 5 minutes to load, so everyone reading this thread at this point, get up, grab a coffee, go for a leak, read the newspaper and come back in five minutes....)

Okay, it's launched.... so here is the fix.

Go to tools
Click on Barcode Ranges
Select USA/International from the list of products shown.
In Frequency enter 1

Now the software will go to the Canada Post Server and assign you bar codes for both US Small Parcel and Commercial Expedited Parcel -USA

Easier than giving birth!

I know I read this somewhere, but something I noticed when creating the shipping labels for a USA Small Package, that although the program assigns an item identifier number (or tracking number for those not use to the new CP jargon), it doesn't print this number on the shipping label.....

Hmmm.......

Oh yeah, one more comment regarding my post 5 in this thread.

I was fuming at the CP tech rep today as I am on the phone with him, giving him the gears about how can they write such crappy software and try to force people to use it (hence we do CP's keypunching for them) and the huge waste of time versus the discount offered, and how could he stand working for such a backwards organization...

Turns out the tech's don't work for CP. This is a farmed out service to IBM. So although they can help you with the software, they don't give a rat's a$$ whether it gets your parcel delivered or not....

Jeff

PS - I am probably being too harsh, actually the guy I worked with today was extremely patient and at the least it is a Canadian division of IBM, so I wasn't talking to some guy in Bangledish (spelling???)

Thank goodness you didnt have to deal with a CP computer specialist.
I understand they programmed the software using Fortran programming and have 3,500 people sitting in a keypunch room puncing out the computer cards.
Can you imagine the type of conversation you might have over using their software:
Jeff: I dont understand how to get the bar codes for small packet shipments printing onto my labels.
CP Rep: What's a bar code?
Jeff: After I download the software an error message shows up on my monitor.
CP Rep: You have your own monitor?
Jeff: How do you convert from US shipment to Canadian shipments using the software program?
CP Rep: How should I know, I've never been to the US.
Jeff: I would like to speak to your supervisor.
CP Rep: I dont think so. I've met him once, a year or so ago and he is not very pleasant.
Jeff: Do you have anyone there who knows anything about this software?
CP Rep: Well we did once but he retired 15 years ago and is living in Florida.

Anyone want the feminine perspective on this?

I can vouch that the aftermath is more UNinstalling hardware!
