How to Make Money on eBay
Early December a buyer purchases a $6.95 ($22.95 retail) dog book listed as a new remaindered copy with remainder mark. Total purchase w/shipping $10.94.
Buyer receives book, emails his absolute distress to find that it is not in pristine condition, but has a remainder mark.
I email back politely pointing out the (several) areas in the listing where this is disclosed; I finish by saying that if he is not happy we will, of course, offer a full refund if he wishes to return the book.
Buyer replies that he is a Collector, and is unhappy to see that although the book is listed as a 1st edition in the item specifics, it does not show as a 1st edition/1st printing inside the book itself.
I email that I understood, obviously a Collector would not be interested in a remainder-marked copy anyway, and again suggest that he send it back.
Hear nothing more for a couple of weeks.
Buyer emails that, upon examination, he is shocked to find that the book has mold; he is appalled; he will not allow mold inside his house!
Feeling a little less friendly at this stage, I email (short and to the point) that he should return the book for a refund.
Package arrived yesterday; a copy of the title I sold him with mold on the inside boards and first free endpaper. There was also a little bonus tucked inside the pages ...
a ($6.97) packing slip addressed to the buyer from an Amazon Marketplace seller.
