How do I correct the shipping address on an item in transit?

I purchased an item and noticed the street address was wrong when I recieved the shipping notice.  How do I correct prior to delivery?

Go to your local Post OFFICE (not the outlet in back of the drugstore) and explain your problem. Bring proof of identity and something like the hydro bill to help the clerk confirm your bona fides.

Was the Postal Code correct? Each code is a postal walk and the postie is literate. But he works from the post office not from the postal outlet.
