How many accept personal cheques?

Hi All,
I accepted personal cheques when I started selling. However when the bank said that it sometimes takes up to 3 or 4 weeks for a cheque to clear some US banks, and I get charged $1 per US cheque cashed, I stopped accepting them. At the time my Credit Union was not charging to cash US money orders. Now they say they made a mistake and charge $1 each for cashing them too. At least there is no Paypal fee involved.
I just wondered how many PS's accept cheques and if you have many problems with them. Most of my customers are in the U.S.

I only accept Paypal as payment, and block bidders who don't have a Paypal account. I also add the ridiculous, over blown, ripoff fee rates that paypal charges, to the cost of my listing so my customers who pay through paypal, pay for paypal. No holds, no bounces, no forgeries, no waiting, no cost to me. The only way to go!
I've always thought that Paypal should be free with your Ebay membership. They already nail us enough when we list, and when we sell, and when we use listing features, and when we open a store, nailing us again to receive payment is like buying a dozen eggs, and each egg is individually wrapped and priced and taxed.
That said, it's a very secure system for receiving payments, and no so bad once you learn to make your customers use it and pay for it.

I still accept cheques. In 40 years of dealing mail order, I think we've had four cheques bounce, and they were all made good plus the banks NSF charges. Only one did we have to threaten legal action, and it IS illegal to issue a bad cheque so it wasn't an empty threat.

I deal with a credit union that has no extra charge for US cheques, and a very nominal charge for several other countries - I think it's 75c per cheque. They are also, this month, eliminating the service charge for deposits! Frankly, I hate PayPal and only offer it because so many buyers have been brainwashed into believing it's preferable!

I don't thing this way! You check how much you paid Paypal's fee for one year. After you go to travel website and check how many days and were you possible could spend this money on your vacation's trip.

My credit union never has charged for deposits. I guess they all have different policies and we just have to see which works best for us.
I think I will look into Bidpay too. But I thought Paypal was the only one you could use on eBay. Do you have to have a Marketworks system or something like that to take payments through Bidpay?

I accept personal cheques & have only ever had one bounce & that was from a Canadian buyer. She eventually came good for it but I had to hound her for the money.

I also accept personal cheques. I have had two cheques bounce. One person immediately sent another one but I lost out on one - it was a Canadian as well and he never replaced it. I have had more bad luck with Canadian buyers than with any other country. It makes me ashamed.
