I have closed my eBay Store today and I am very happy with the decision. Last month's sales on the eBay store were a grand total $65! With the % of commission to eBay and a beautiful monthly charge of $15.95, I ended up losing more than $5 on this sale. I just felt like sharing this whole story with you guys.

Thank you for listening.

That is why I closed mine too. But I did it before I had a chance to pay the increase.

That's why Standard & Poor's predicted that, within a year, another 21,000 to 28,000 eBay stores would close.

Wow. I am really surprised by the slow sales you are all reporting in your stores.

My store consistantly contributes 20-30% of my entire sales for the month.

I have my new store almost completed. I should be closing my ebay store in about a month. It will cost me $5.00 per month. So long ebay.

Hi all

From my personal experience: if you are selling any kind of reasonable volume in your eBay store, keep it open at least temporarily until you start to see results from your own website - if you do see results, that is.

It can take months to get your site ranked with the better search engines and even when you are getting lots of hits that does not automatically translate into sales; shoppers are much more wary of buying from an unknown little website than from the big venues like eBay, Amazon etc. Part of the value your eBay fees bring you is a degree of respectability (don't laugh, new buyers do believe the eBay protection guarantees.)

I have had my own bookstore website for well over a year, and it is only now starting to show real results (and that after I posted an address and a telephone number. I have had a number of calls from interested shoppers who wanted to increase their comfort level)

My best advice is to keep your options open.

Ann

The reason our fellow ebayers are closing their stores is because of the price hike and ebays new listing fees. I myself am a new Silver PS and understand that ebay has to make money as a company, but they are charging the wrong sellers, they should be charging the new sellers coming in and asking them for a deposit if they want to sell because as i have been watching a lot of new sellers between 0 and 10 feedback selling a whole lot of expensive items, collecting the buyers and then they are no longer registered. If ebay would concentrate on that they will see that they are losing all kinds of revenue, plus it will knock of a lot of fraudulant sellers and buyers from joining our community, but i guess it's easier for them to hike the prices instead of managing their business. This is my opinion and no offense to anyone.

The principal is the same as how Revenue Canada gets so much money from the middle class taxpayers. Tax the hell out of those that draw a regular salary as they dont have the opportunity to hide income.

They will continue to get salaried jobs, just as the majority of Power sellers will continue to list and sell on eBay.

Those few that fall off, or their prinicples are too high, are quickly replaced with new Power sellers.

Example. Mike of Phoebe's Collectables selling as a Power Seller for years on eBay, paying tons of fees. He was too busy to list for a couple of months and lost his status. Or even myself, a Silver about to loose Power Seller status afer years of selling on eBay as a Power Seller becuase all traffic seemed to stop for me in January and February. Surly eBay bears some responsibility for not bringing more customers to me as well.

Of course they are feeling it from the fact that I have not listed this month at all and they have not earned any fees from me for the last 3 months after paying them almost $1,000 for my December sales.

lets just face the facts its hard work just be a power as far as i'm concern we should lose iit but i dont make the policies. Another thing i started just selling fishing tackle and branched off in other areas to increase my sale. The way see it really doesnt work if you just sell on item unless your like myself the manufacture

I closed my store before the price increases. I'm paying $20 a month for a website that has tons more features than eBay, NO restrictions (I can do anything I want), and no other fees. It has only been up a couple months but it's starting to see some business. In the end, it will be well worth it. I'm already paying 1/2 the eBay fees I was, and I'm hoping this continues to drop as my store picks up more and more of the business.

It kind of seems like the new rate increases put the brakes on for new sellers and many old ones. This should continue into the foreseeable future. Growth no longer looks as promising.

With growth there is stability and changes but there is nothing like that here.

I closed my eBay store before the price hike, and I'm glad I did. Now I am making more sales than before. Open a store only if you have a lot of items for sell, otherwise you just gave all your money to eBay, so why bother.
