I'm I doomed with Paypal?

Hi to everybody,

Here is a situation. A customer paid for 4 items and I send it over to US by CP Expedited. Customer address is confirmed.

Two months later customer claims, that nothing was ever received. Tracking shows that parcel was delivered.

He is going to charge me back via paypal. I'm I doomed?

Forget about answering to PayPal's complaint!
If you really need to, call them up and sort things out over the phone (ask for them to send a copy of the phone conversation to your e-mail so they cannot deny anything). It seems that sometimes they need to be reminded that they should be on OUR side. Their support is friendly and straightens things out quickly!
I had a similar occurance with them a few months ago and they refused to listen to me! I ahd just about had it with them! I am a SquareTrade Seal Member and (as akward as it sounds) I happened to end up telling a sqauretrade rep about the problem and they said they would take care of it. To my surprise, the case was dropped 15 mins. later! THAT is what I call customer service and satisfaction (eBay PS Support, a friendly suugestion - maybe a few lessons from them will clear things up)

Anatoly,

PayPal will not accept a buyer complaint after 30 days, however a buyer may still attempt to file a chargeback directly through their card issuer. If so PayPal will request information in hopes of disputing the complaint on your behalf.

A seller can still combine shipping, but to do so they should also consolidate all auctions into a single payment. You need one tracking number for each transaction (not each auction).

Cheers,

You're not doomed with paypal, you're doomed by accepting any credit cards. I got a chargeback on my account, they gave me 10 days to response from the date they sent their letter. I got the letter 25 days later, no chance to do anything anymore.

I know a lot of sellers who charge an extra fee for accepting paypal. It may not be in terms with the contract but nobody I know got the paypal account cancelled. So you have your own little insurance business opportunity there....

When we were looking at getting our business started, we talked to Merchant Accounts for Visa, Mastercard and Amex. As 99% of our business is e-commerce, Visa wanted us to post a $10,000 security deposit.

They also infomred us that there can be circumsatnces where a client can file a claim for non-receipt of a product upwards of 18 months after it had been shipped.

Even after talking to Mastercard, everything is stacked in favour of the cardholders and themselves with little incentive or protection for us as a merchant. They just want us to pay, pay, pay and be liable for their approving a customer who later decides to file a claim.

So, I readily wave the PayPal flag and look forward to getting my PayPal T-Shirt which I will proudly wear into my bank to see my Account Manager as soon as I get it.

Verified by Visa has tilted to scale back in favour of the merchant imo. I just hope the other card companies will follow suit with similar programs.

If the cardholder is signed up, they accept liability for any fraud and if they're not signed up, the issuing bank accepts the liability (it's an incentive to get them to sign up their cardholders)

Some business cards aren't eligble for verified by visa, but all personal ones are. This doesn't protect you against "goods not as described", but does prevent those "I don't recognize the charges", and "fraudulent use" crap that's the most common anyway.

PayPal has it's place, but it's nice to be able to process card numbers directly.

To conclude this:

Paypal charged me back on this transaction. There is no seller protection, period.

Malcom,

Do you work for Paypal?
You really do have rose tinted spectacles that seem to see only good when clearly Payp[al has so many improvement opporunities that you clearly cannot see.
