If I buy a ring from china for .99 with no shipping fees will there be any other charges to my accou

I have bought some cheap jewellery on EBAY from places like china and india. There was no shipping charges. I have paid via paypal and transactions have been through my bank account already. I have just discovered duty and something called brokerage fees. Will or might I be charged these fees on the things I bought? Trinkets were aprox. .99 cents

No.

Duty and sales taxes kick in when the value of your import reaches $20CDN (about $15.00 USD).

You will of course get a ring that could have been purchased from a gum machine. But that wasn't the question.

Oh.

You mentioned 'trinkets'. Plural.

If you buy 15 or more of the 99 cent rings (Chinese sellers usually use US dollars), you may be charged duty. You more likely will be charged sales tax. And Canada Post has a service fee of $9.95 for wrangling dutiable imports across the border.

So if they are for a child's party, they may well cost double what you thought just in border fees.
