Increase in Non-Paying Bidders.....

Up until June I had only filed about 2 or 3 U.I.D.'s and all of them paid. In June I filed 3 that never did pay, I have 3 more filed in June for which I am waiting payment (not holding my breath), and now I have 2 more who are slow paying. Then today I received a Money Order payable in the U.S. only which I will have to return. Another buyer kept screwing up. First she sent 2 money orders separately for the same order so she paid double. Then she ordered more stuff which exceeded the amount paid so she sent another money order. This one was fine but she reversed the numbers and shortchanged me by almost $3. I shipped her order anyway and trusted her to make up the difference later. No big loss if she doesn't.

How do you get buyers to pay these days? Most of them are newbies of course, but one has 100% positive feedback of 89!! I give them lots of time to pay and send information every couple of days if they haven't responded within a reasonable time period.

I find that all my buyers are paying but a lot of them are taking longer to pay than before. What really bugs me is what just happened to me. Someone bought something from me with the Buy it Now and waited 7 days to pay. He did send a note with his payment saying sorry it took so long because he had to go out of town.....Come on, he wants me to believe that he had enough time to hit the Buy it Now but didn't have enough time to make his payment before leaving??? Anyway I shouldn't complain, he did pay.

funny you mention that judy, i'm kind of noticing the same thing-slow payers-it will usually take me 3 weeks before filing a dispute for non payment-if no contact after 2 weeks, i email, if no contact still, i'll open a dispute maybe 3 weeks later or a little more. i have a newbie right now (brand new) who purchased something about a week and a half ago-wrote me right after winning stating she wasn't sure paypal was safe, and wanted another method of paying-i said sure-send a money order, please let me know if you'd like this option, and let me know when you will be sending it out so i can add it to my records. haven't heard from her since despite another email after that. i'm going to file an npd soon.
here's the kicker though...on another item...i had someone buy a painting from me early june. two weeks go by-no payment-so i email asking if they still want the item. no reply until 5 days later, finally pays. he pays the TUBED shipping charge (9.50) and asks me to stretch it (29.95)-all outlined in the invoice. i email him explaining the difference in price, and which service he wants-if its stretched, he'll have to pay another 20.00, let me know so i can send a new invoice...a week goes by...nothing...so i email him again stating i have one week to ship an item after payment is received to be protected under paypal, and that since he paid for tubed, that's how i'm sending it. that was about a week and a half ago. surprise, surprise...last night i get an email:

where's the painting??? you're a little late in delivering this item???

exact email, exact words. my god!! I'M late???? i emailed him back outlining all the last month's events, and that i thought he was BOLD asking where his painting was, and accusing me of being late. he replied back apologizing saying HE WASN'T AWARE OF THE EMAILS. whatever. give me a break. he was still bidding/paying and leaving feedback on ebay while i was sending those emails. some people!! slow to pay, quick to complain...X-(

Increase in Non-Paying Bidders.....

I had one that bought a $25 item at a B.I.N. price who did not pay, answer my emails or respond to the U.I.D. Why buy it and then not pay for it? It put that item out of commission for a couple of weeks...it was the only one I had in that design.
Another 0 feedback responded to the dispute saying she had received an outbid notice and just forgot about it. Funny thing though....she was the ONLY bidder!! And why didn't she see my emails? Still hasn't paid.
A third one is doing what your buyer is doing Kat--she bought and paid for something else immediately and was left feedback and I still have not been paid.

And why do we believe their excuses?....because we were all born yesterday/just fell off of the turnip truck/just came into town on a bale of hay/ we aren't the coldest beer in the frig/ we are two bricks short of a load.....Take your pick!!:^O

Increase in Non-Paying Bidders.....

I definately have notice an increace in NPB in the past month or so. I have 6 people I have UID in for at the moment 3 are newbies and 2 are established buyers with 100% feedback (1 finally paid last night and had a personal medical issue which I was very understanding of).
Beyond putting taking good items out of the sales loop, I just find the dispute process so drawn out.

I just think it's hilarious 90% of my items have a shipping price listed within the listing for US buyers (i don't have the immediate payment option on for BIN items because I can't determine Canadian shipping till I get a postal code). If you buy an item from my store using BIN, why does it take more then 24 hours after invoice to pay? Do you go to the local shop and say i'm going to buy this and then leave it sitting there for a week or more before going into pay...heck no.

Hopefully the people hanging out on ebay for some summer "fun" of bidding and not paying will find other activities to engage in soon.

The dispute process is drawn out and you could be right Kiralicious that some people are bidding for "fun" and not paying. After all, if they get neg'd they can just start up again with a new user ID apparently.
