Recently I have been shocked by the extremely high cost to buyers from sellers in the US who are using the Global Priority System. I live in Canada and it is unreal. My daughter recently bought a "used pair of Boots for $75" The total cost was $120 !!!!! That is outrageous. I would rather deal with Canada Customs on my own as it would be much cheaper. I don't know about other countries, but this is a ridiculous amount of money for Canada Ebay is making profit for some company that has nothing to do with the buyer. It should be an option for buyers. Not a shock until AFTER you have won the item and HAVE to pay it.
Sadly, unless this becomes an option, we will no longer be buying from US buyers.

The import charges are show right under the shippping charges so there should not have been such a shock as to the custom charges.
Although buyers have to pay a heftier charge to import from sellers using the GSP, sellers are given incentives to use the program so I don't think they will be abandoning the program anytime soon.
Not all US sellers use the GSP so all you need to do is be diligent and look first to see if custom charges are show under the shipping charges. If they are, you will know that that seller is using the GSP and you can avoid them.

Total with or without the selling price?
Boots are heavy and bulky so part of that cost would be shipping : from the seller to Kentucky where it would have sales tax (up to 15% depending on province) and duty (unless US or Mexican made) plus a small service charge added.
$75 for boots
$11.25 for sales tax
$5 for service charge
and
$28.75 for cross border postage with insurance and delivery confirmation.
Sounds about right.
