A customer bought and paid for merchandise today. We received the PP payment notice that the funds were in our account and we could ship. An account check verified that the funds were indeed credited.
Later we received a PP email saying that the seller had canceled the transaction:
Notification of PayPal Payment Cancellation
Hello Laketown Investments Ltd.,
A pending PayPal payment by bank transfer to you has just been canceled by the sender.
An account check showed the transaction reversed and the notation:
Total Amount: $145.30 USD
Fee amount: $0.00 USD
Net amount: $145.30 USD
Date: May 5, 2010
Time: 08:08:40 PDT
Status: Canceled
Can buyers now cancel payments after the money was sent? Scary at best ?:|
This likely had something to do with the fact that the payment was funded with a bank account that did not have sufficient funds.
Bank-to-bank transfers are de rigeur in Europe and it's is usually in real-time. The credit to us only lasted less than 2 minutes, which would substantiate that.
Anyhow, no worries and there was never an issue with the customer per se; it was more an issue as to the fact that reversals with instant payments are possible.
Bernie, I guess buyer initiated the 1st attempt by eCheck rather than Instant, Second attempt was instant, You could be right , if reversal happened due to NSF in Bank account of buyer. It good to know it been solved!
I had a customer order an item, pay for it through paypal and then 3 days after I shipped they reversed it by telling me that it was an unauthorized sale. They got the item though.
I do not understand how they can call it unauthorized if the person making the purchase has both passwords to make the purchase.
