I'm on my second batch of Proper Scottish shortbread cookies.

I'm not a baker but every year my cousin sends me some delicious buttertarts. yummm
I've never cared for tourtiere even though my grandmother often made one for Christmas.

You're making me hungry!

I look forward to trying your recipe Pierre. But first I have to eat my way through all the Christmas stuff that's already in the house.

Pierre's tourtière is the best! Every year I make his tourtière and Danielle Diva's Toblerone shortbread cookies for Christmas.

You're way ahead of me there, I haven't finished eating my first.

Just be careful on some of the tinsels, - they really zap your metal fillings.

I could use a zap. We've got that six-week flu making the rounds. At this point, our Christmas Eve supper is looking like a Pizza Hut special. Groan.

We're hosting a Christmas Eve dinner-- but I think we may end up having Chinese for Christmas by ourselves .
I'm doing Oyster Chowder, radish and cucumber, Chinese -style duck, ham, Wild Rice, brussels sprouts with bacon, fennel and apple salad, maple mousse, peach pavlova, and Ian's cousin's fruitcake.
Next year I think we'll work on a having a few waifs and strays over on Christmas Day. There are a lot of elderly singles in our circle. And around here (Oak Bay, BC) you're not really elderly until you hit 90.

I'm about to start my second round of home-made bittersweet chocolate truffles today (the boozy sort). The last batch got hoovered up -- fast -- at a pre-Christmas party.
I used to love making traditional Christmas marzipan "fruits" and painting them myself, but ground almonds are so expensive now (I couldn't believe a medium-sized bag was over $30.00!), that I've given up on that idea.
My other traditional seasonal favourite is Italian Panforte dolce, a sort of celestial hybrid of fruitcake, chocolate fudge, and nut brittle, but definitely not for the faint of tooth.
We're still waiting for the snow to arrive here in SW Nova Scotia -- it just doesn't seem right to have 14 degrees on Christmas eve.
Merry Christmas everybody!

LOL You mean you don't have any left from last year?
Fourteen degrees and a green Christmas sounds like Heaven to me. In Winnipeg, we were green until 10 days ago after which we had two huge snowfalls, leaving us with enough snow to last until Spring. So it looks like green out East and white out West. I have a cousin in Osoyoos, B.C. which is like the "tropics" of Canada who awoke to snow this morning. They thought it was "so cool".
I hope all my friends and colleagues on this Board have a wonderful day with their families. And let's look forward to a more peaceful, less stressful New Year!
