It's true - no more TDWaterhouse accounts

I signed up for TD Waterhouse account last week at the TD bank where I had opened an account last month. The teller filled in my application, made up a $100US money order to accompany it and sent it off. Said my debit card should arrive in a week or two.

I just received my money order back with a letter as follows:

Thank you for your recent application to open a TD Waterhouse Bank U.S. Dollar Checking Account. Unfortunately, we are unable to establish accounts for residents of Canada at this time.

Here's the kicker - We hope you'll allow us to help you manage your money sucessfully in other ways. WTF?

I have mine setup since a year ago. What happens to our accounts? Do we get to keep them or will they get cancelled?

Is there an official announcement for this?

It was posted. It has to do with new accounts where TD Waterhouse said they are not able to open up new accounts at this time.

I swear GWB has something to do with this.

"I swear GWB has something to do with this"

LOL

I have had mine for awhile (almost 2 years) they wanted to cancel it 3 or 4 months after I opened saying that I was using it for business. I had to contact their security department and explain that it was my savings from the stuff I sold online. Only excess cash was directed there as "saving" They have never bother me again, even changed my daily limit once to more than 5,000 to allow me to do a purchase (all from their customer service within 5 minutes of denying my card for the amount)

I havent been asked or bothered at all from them. ALl my deposits are from eBay and all my withdrawls are by their c/c as either cash w/d or for purchases.

I was told about TD Waterhouse 2 years ago by a TD c/s rep whose parents sold cars on eBay and used a TD Waterhouse acct for their car business and I assure you it generates alot more sales and cash flow through it than my business does.
