Hi, I bought portable dvd players from a seller here in mid September. I did not try them out until after Christmas (silly me I guess) as they were a present. Upon trying to set them up my husband found a DVD already inside and that someone had taken them apart with screws missing and hastily put them back together. They don't work. Since this is an older transaction I can't even find it in my history to contact the seller. Is there a time limit to returns? How would I find a past transaction? I'm hoping to give the seller a chance to fix it before going through ebay. If I can't find the seller is there a help line phone humber for ebay.ca? Thanks!

After 30 days, there is no option to Return for a refund via ebay. But you're covered up to 180 days with paypal. Go to your Paypal account and find the transaction within your Account Activity and open a case in the Resolution Centre there. You will have to tell the seller it is significantly not as described and ask for your money back. (Send photos through the dispute centre.) Paypal will likely prompt you to return the offending product(s) WITH TRACKING or you will NOT get your refund. The whole process is automated and you must pay very close attention to the deadlines and the instructions. Best of luck to you.

Hello 'bubjo',
<<I bought portable dvd players ... in mid September. I did not try them out until after Christmas (silly me I guess)>>
Indeed. If you would like to see the paypal policy that shows you have 180 days, it is here:
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#13
Chances are the seller will not do anything, not if he knew he was sending you a malfunctioning item. If he is in Canada he should be able to send you a return shipping label, but if he is outside your own country this is not possible. He can still send the postage cost to your paypal account, however.
So if you can, file a paypal claim now. If that is no help to you and you paid with a credit card, you can call the 1-800 customer service number associated with the card and ask about a chargeback. You will need all the transaction details in front of you when you call. You should still have the purchase receipts in your regular email from when you bought them, if you were not so foolish as to delete them.
And for future info, have a look at ebay's page on what to do when there's a problem.
http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/item-not-received.html
Endeavouring to call anyone at ebay is a trying and tedious process. Most of the 'what to do' information is available somewhere and if you want more one-on-one assistance, these Discussion Boards will get you lots of helpful responses.
It is oddly humorous that the ordinary members here are far, far better at 'customer assistance' than those officially employed to do it.
Good luck

If you paid with paypal, look up the transaction and the email address of the seller should be on the purchase detail page.
If you still have the email(s) that eBay sent you regarding your purchase, contact info should be there as well.
