Family member received this e-mail today:
We’re writing to notify you that we have received a Federal Court order requiring us to disclose information to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) about PayPal Business account holders who sent or received a payment between January 1, 2014, and November 10, 2017. To comply with the order, PayPal Canada will make a disclosure to the CRA within 45 days of the date of the order.
Anyone else get this? I didn't and haven't heard anything about it.

It does say Business account holders -- so not everyone.

As long as your family member was declaring their profits as income there is no problem.
If they haven't they may be audited so I hope they have been keeping records of purchases/expenses and sales,

New realities
Paypal will not report sellers without a business account
eBay will not report sellers that have less than $20,000 in sales each year.
Now that eBay charges GST/HST/QST on fees... and a seller wants to register with CRA to collect the appropriate taxes.
Could be a difficult proposition if a seller has not been reporting selling income on Annual tax forms.
People try to fly under the radar..... and the radar catches them........ if it is pointed directly at them
-----------------------------------
It should also be noted that in the beginning eBay had to report sellers with more than $10,000 in sales each year...
That was quickly increased to $20,000 in sales each year
--------------------------------
But then... What would happen if CRA asks eBay to report all Canadian sellers with sales for .... one year only....and....
Reduce the dollar value to those with sales over $5,000 in that one year....
and then search for those with annual sales in the range of $15,000 to $20,000.... and then Less than $15,000 but close to this $15,000 value.....
The CRA request to Paypal could be a beginning of a more extensive search for those that fly under the radar....
