I was just reading this over at paypal,http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&eloc=1121&loc=1099&unique_id=56659&source_page=_home&flow=
You can opt out of the buyer protection plan. I was wondering if anybody has done it and if it has affected business at all + or -. Iam tired of getting screwed around from buyers. Is there any other way?

From what I've read, the Buyer Protection Plan is just an "extension" of the Buyer Complaint Process. You can opt out of it, but I believe you can still be dinged by a buyer making a claim through the Buyer Complaint Process.

I opted out - I haven't noticed a difference. I think imagi.nation is right about buyers making a claim, but at least I'm not advertising that it's something they can do!

YOu can opt out of the advertising in your auctions. At least to an extent. I called and had them remove all that info about the buyer protection plan from my listing, but there is still a link at the bottom of the seller information. I have just e-mailed ebay about having that removed.

You can't stop Paypal from taking money out of your account. AS a matter of fact, if your account has a zero balance, they will charge your credit card. But there is no way I am going to advertise their program filled with fraudulent scammers.

I will let you know what ebay says about the link, if I ever here from them.

Can someone do me a favor? Could you have a look at one of my listing and see what is just under the "Seller information" block. Just below the store link where it says "please visit Jessica's Boutique".

When I look at it, I see "Purchase Protection" and it takes me to Paypal's buyer protection.

According to ebay support, they see "Safe buying Tips". Something fishy going on here.

Thanks

It says "Seller's Protection" and has a yellow crest.

So it appears that you eliminated PayPal but are still informing buyers they are protected.

I see same as Malcolm, except is says "Buyers Protection" with the shield symbol. It is a hyper link that takes you to the Paypal Buyer Protection Information.

Very misleading....

Jeff

PS - Now how could Ebay support be offering you misleading information.... oh ya, they don't give a rats a$$....Vendor support? Never heard of it!

Thanks guys.

Now this is really interesting.

I see "Purchase Protection"
Ebay sees "Safe buying Tips"
Malcolm sees "Seller's Protection"
Jeff sees "Buyers Protection"

BUt they all seem to take you to Paypals Buyer protection. I have a feeling there is no way to get rid of this link. Oh man.

I sent another email to ebay. I will let you know what they say. I suspect we will have to advertise this Paypal program.

OK. I got the answer back.

It seems that it depends on whether you sign into .ca or .com.

If I look at my listings from .com, then a link for "buyer safety" comes up that takes you to some general information about buyer protection. Of course there is some information about Paypal as well.

If I look at my listings from .ca, then a link with "purchase protection" comes up, and it takes you right to Paypal purchase protection program.

Now ebay support told me that "myebay" on ebay.com has an option to turn it off, whereas ebay.ca does not. I couldn't find it on either one. I called Paypal to have it turned off. Or at least as much of it as I could.

I need a beer.

Inquiring minds need to know.......

What is the reason for turning this off?

Ben, basically we don't want to let buyers know how easy it is to claim a chargeback by saying they didn't get the item. When they realize that there is NO tracking from Canada for most levels of mail service, we're afraid they'll start doing it all the time and we'll end up without our goods and screwed out of our payment as well!

What do you want to bet that there will be a Class Action lawsuit launched against PayPal again.

It will only take pi$$ing off a few of the larger US Power Sellers or enough complaints and I bet a US law firm will jump at the chance to go after PayPal on this.

They have annointed themselves as judge and jury with our money based on their terms of proof.

We can't opt out of the program. It is the sellers that provide the money for Paypal's generous program. But I will be darned if I am going to advertise it for them.
