Received a payment of $2000 from a zero feedback buyer...immediately receive a notice from Paypal stating payment is under review and not to ship until notified - payment clears shortly after this email. Good to go, right! Two minutes later receive an email from Paypal saying I now have limited access to my account until tracking is provided. Not really a big deal accept that I already had $6500 in my Paypal account - the entire balance is frozen! Talked to one of geniuses at Paypal and full balance will be held until tracking shows delivery - unbelievable....

Is it normal for you to receive $2k in single shot ? If payment did not fit the pattern (yours of buyers), it triggered some PayPal security measures, but sometimes I wonder ...

Was it CC payment or PayPal to PayPal ?

Hi jerseypros,

Perhaps PayPal and eBay are concerned with this transaction because your sales record shows 4 jerseys being sold since January 19th which amounted to $466.00.

The $2000 payment may have alerted eBay/PayPal that you were selling *off eBay*, overcharging for shipping, and or they are genuinely concerned that neither you or your buyer are harmed in this transaction.

Seems odd to me!

I have no issue with them holding the $2000 - its the $6500 that was already there that's pissing me off.

Yes, that does seem strange.

Lesson learned is - don't leave money in your Paypal, I guess.

It's getting better by the minute! Only reason I have that much cash in the account is because I bought Gold Medal hockey tickets - which of course I can't pay for because the account is frozen. I can tell you the seller of the tickets was pretty excited when I told him I can't pay because Paypal has restricted my account...

Hi jerseypros,

I'm not sure if you missed my post...but perhaps eBay and/or PayPal is wondering why you would receive a $2000 payment from a ZERO feedback buyer when your sales don't add up to that over the past 15+ days. And, by this I mean the sales that show here on eBay.

I realize that it's quite possible that you have sold off site, which is strictly your business...but if an invoice were sent through eBay and it didn't quite match up with your sales...they might have red-flagged your account for this reason.

There's a big difference selling a jersey for $149 and receiving a $2000 payment for same.

Susan has a good point - they may be worried about money-laundering.

I would educate them as to the reason for the large cash payment or you might be talking to the RCMP soon.:O

Seems like a silly question but have you called PayPal?

Hi Susan, thanks for the reply...we have 3 ebay accounts and an online store that feed this Paypal account...average monthly payments around 12K so the 2K shouldn't raise any flags. As I've stated numerous times I have no problems with them holding the 2k but holding the money that was already in there is ridiculous!

Hi jerseypros,

Perhaps it was your zero-rated buyer that was/is the problem.

PayPal is a mystery to most and it makes up its rules as it goes along! Not always are the rules applied fairly across the board!

Banking laws have dramatically changed since 9/11.

So hopefully you shipped the package the fastest way with the best tracking available and you'll have all of your funds released quickly!

You'll have to keep us all posted as to the outcome and as to how long it takes!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery of your account!

Hi Susan, you're probably right that the buyers payment triggered this whole thing. When I spoke to Paypal the other day the rep actually agreed that it was silly that they were holding all my funds but there was nothing he could do until the tracking shows delivery - when I asked to speak to the manager so I could rip into somebody he said he was the manager and to start ripping!!! Anyway package is being delivered today so hopefully the funds get released soon so I don't lose my tickets!

My Bad! (I was right, it was a silly question!)

I'm curious OP why would you have $6500 in you account "to pay for tickets"? Much safer to use a credit card (via PayPal) to fund the purchase.

Yeah I have to agree with that and have actually cleared out my paypal account on 2 occasions so that I could fund larger $ transactions with sellers I knew might give me problems...and it paid off in one of the cases.

Two years ago I had a good repeat customer that paypal blocked buyer checkout on. I waited for her to clear it up with them but they never came through and after exactly 45 days, I filed for non-payment as a formality to recoup my fees (in retrospect I should have done a mutual cancellation but didn't know how they worked back then). Anyhow I was very apologetic to my buyer and sent her a very long informative email that it was just to buy us some more time but she has never bought from me since. Paypal works in mysterious ways and I have found that they play both the buyer and the seller....so much so that it's hard to make heads or tails of what the real situation is and who's telling the truth.

That's a good point, recped.

Jersey, you really should double-cover yourself with a credit card payment on those tickets, just in case.

I would agree them holding the 2k but the Balance of funds should not be frozen unless there is strong proof of foul play up to that amount, good Luck Just Hope the Zero score buyer is Legite,

if not then you in for a 90 Day wait , unless the rule has changed, Been there done that, best Part I never done anything wrong, it was the Buyer so they made me wait 90 Days

Maybe it could have been above the OP's credit limit. Raising the limit is usually easy but it can reduce one's borrowing powers.

Simple answer - to avoid the currency exchange. Not worried about the safety of the transaction - tickets are legit and I've bought from this seller many times.
