Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Hello Canadian sellers,

This thread is open for discussion regarding the recent announcement about eBay Canada retiring USD support from its selling flows. Myself and other employees will come visit this thread and do our best to answer any questions on this topic.

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

All my items are listed in .ca....
I only listed on .com, items that are shipped from there from my supplier.
and few "best sellers" of .ca

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Just another exemple that show that ca items have LESS visibility, less viewers....

Guess who have better views ?

Guess who have 1-day late publication compared to the earlier ad of the same item ??

see the screen capture for these 11-days history viewer $US/$CAD

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Same here! I go for days without any sales.

I used to have multiple sales in any given day.

At times I've had as many as 1000 items listed ~ now I'm listing less and less.

Nothing helps ~ barely any sales.

And with most of my buyers from USA ~ hard to believe that so many of them don't understand that Canadian price is actually less for them in US $.

If I list a Best Offer item in CAD, I frequently have offers in USD

This change has Not helped me at all ~ it's only served to create Low sales and Mass Confusion!

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

There is a problem on Ebay.com on calculated shipping option.

For my item#  252755131419

Shipping to GA 30010 USA

on ebay.ca I've got 2 shipping services

expedited:  72.36$

Xpresspost:  111.45$

I have customer who ask me the shipping price for 30010 and when I am looking my item on ebay.com

I saw:  Shipping cost cannot be calculated. Please enter a valid ZIP Code

see my screen capture:

Can somebody explain this to me please ??

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

I'm starting to switch items over to .com as they do seem to sell better.

The only thing I can tell you is that .com is not connected to Canada Post so I don't see any way they could calculate shipping.

For anything I list on the .com side, I input a 'flat rate' to Canada or USA (also to Other Countries if possible)

To "guesstimate" the flat rate charges, I consult the CPC website first and see how much shipping is to the Farthest destination, eg: for Canada I use a postal code in Nfld and for USA I use the cost to either Alaska or California as they both come up the same.

For Other Countries, I don't try to input a cost when a parcel is involved ~ small items I can easily remember the cost but for larger items I wait until a potential buyer asks and then I consult the CPC website.

Not sure if this helps, but thought I'd pass it on.

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

The problem on flate rate is that it cost 8.67$ to ship to my neighbor in Montréal but it will.cost 23$ to Vancouver. This for simply 150g item in 23x17x9cm.
Letter post will be 1.80$ under 500g...wherever it is in Canada. But no tracking and coverage.

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

I've been flat rate since I started selling on ebay, I was already selling online previously thru other sites so I already knew what it cost to ship everything I'd be listing. I just set my flat rates as a worst case for a given country in terms of distance from me for a given package size that'll hold the item. If I happen to get a buyer closer to me, I get a small profit on shipping. If the package ends up slightly more expensive for unusual dimensions or whatever...so be it, in the end it all averages out. Except for stickers/decals (which go lettermail inside birthday/anniversary/greeting cards & envelopes from the dollar store), I ONLY ship with tracking. Thus all I had to do when setting up shipping policies on ebay.com was copy my previous USD policies from ebay.ca.

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Further info re selling on .com:

Problem ~ only shipping services given (at least to me) are through USPS , UPS, etc.

Ebay gives the 'expected arrival dates' based on the type of shipping service.

On March 9 I mailed a package to UK by International Surface Parcel ~ sold through ebay.com

Only service I could choose was USPS 1st class

Ebay tells customer it will arrive in appx. 10 days! Wrong, Surface Parcel to UK takes at least 1 month.

Parcel left Canada on March 14 and is still 'enroute' to destination.

So, another problem to consider

I'm switching a lot of listings to the .com side, but the "expected delivery dates" will be Incorrect as .com is not connected to Canada Post, therefore, does not give the right options for shipping.

Just sayin............

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Answer from customer service about shipping calculation problem on ebay.com, for items in $CAD created on ebay.ca

Here is what I see happening on your account as I have done some additional checking.  It appears that on your end, when you pull up items 252755131419 & 252483023843 that the error message             " Shipping cost cannot be calculated. Please enter a valid Postal Code" is visible in red.  At first when I checked, selecting a country and adding a zip code the system would not return any information.  However, when I checked later in the day this seemed to resolve and shipping was calculated and the error message went away when country and valid zip code were added.

I then went a step further, going into my own eBay account and searched for your item. (I did this because I wanted to see exactly what a customer would see if looking at your item out side of the eBay system).  What I found was, as you stated, when the country and zip code are added into the boxes provided, the system is NOT generating for the customer a calculation of shipping to that location but is returning the error message "Shipping cost cannot be calculated. Please enter a valid ZIP Code."

This confirms to me that there is an issue.  Now the process starts of determining where the issue is coming from

I checked a few of these and the tracked and small packet ones are showing up on .com properly . Are you seeing the same thing?

i just had a thought....are you listing on the .ca French site?  Perhaps there is a problem in communicating between  .com and ca.fr.   If so, changing to the English site could make a difference.  I'm grasping at straws here but because your problem is not happening to everyone that could be the one thing that you are doing differently.???

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Yes I am on .cafr....could be this....however, I make new listing with IE instead of chrome and seems to be correct. Ebay tech team is currently checking this....

Do you have more info about that communication problem between .cafr and .com ?? I didn't heard about it....

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

No, it was just a guess on my part.  Your problem isn't common so I was looking for something that you might do differently than most of us who post here who don't have the same problem. I would guess that the majority of us list on English .ca or on .com so one of the differences would be that you list on .cafr.

Just noticed I seem to have an extra 1000 listings per month on my premium account. 1000 listings on ebay.ca or cafr and 1000 other listings on ebay.com

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Since my last post about shipping calculation, my sales have significantly rise over the last 4 days.  More than 20 items sold for approx. 7k$.  My sales are better in the last 3 days than in whole january sales.

60-days average sales now at 23.6k$ (vs. 16.8k$ average on last friday)

I don't know if my shipping calculation problem have been resolved by ebay tech team but things seems to be good for now....

About using ca.fr:  Using ca.fr for ad creation gives me sub-titles at no charge.  Ebay told me that because Québec market is small, they gives french users like me, free of charge for the sub-title, to let me put french title to reach more french Canadians.

I am also french native and based in Montréal.  That's why my english is not always good!

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

Further to my post re: surface international parcel to UK:

sent a parcel with through the same service to Brazil ~ 1.5 weeks and delivered!

sent one to UK same service ~ stayed "on the ship?" from Mar. 14 until I finally contacted the Ombudsman for Canada Post.

It was 'found' 3 days later!

CPC refused to open a 'service ticket' for me but "somebody" found it.........

Miracle!!

Re: Retirement of USD from eBay.ca Selling Flows

I received confirmation from Ebay that technical team has identified this as a BUG on our site and are working to fix the issue.

When I looked on some of my items (ex:  GFCI breakers), on ebay.ca, the bug show only Xpresspost USA shipping for US.  However, expedited parcel USA is set.

For the same items, when I looked on ebay.com, the bug is full:  No services are showing.  **bleep**!

I am currently in my season peak and this affect my sales negatively.

Not enough problems with $CAD visibility, another brick on my head to add....
