Return shipping label help

I bought a control board for an istick 30w to repair a customers device, the unit came in and I installed it but later that night as it was charging I noticed the oled screen flickering, the next day it started going blank then flashing wildly. I msg'd the seller but didn't get a reply, 2-3 days later I asked ebay to help, the seller replied that day and I offered video as proof (youtube) the seller Ok'd the return but then asked if I had the packaging I said it was thrown out. I msg'd back 3 times asking what to do, that the USB port was now lose and to update that the board (while off) caught fire, all msg's were ignored.

Now a week later I received a msg "the seller cannot purchase a return shipping label" and that I have 5 days to ship it back or possibly lose the possibility of a refund. My problem is that the (minor) fire damaged the whole device so I purchased a new same device ($75) for my customer and now can't afford to pay shipping for at least a couple of weeks, I msg'd ebay CS twice now explaining my situation but only received a canned replies. I now have 2 days left.

What does "the seller cannot purchase a return shipping label" mean?

In 2 days will I be S.O.L? will I have any other options?

That buyer shipped the item back to the seller without waiting for the funds for the return.  Don't make that mistake.

 

After escalating, if the case is found in your favour, wait the required five days for the seller to send you a return label or the funds for the label.  If nothing happens call eBay and they weil issue a refund on the spot or a return label.

 

Again:  If you post the size and weight of the item here we can advise you on how much it will cost for ship via CPO and how much $ to request from the seller.

Sorry for the delay, I thought I would receive a notification for your reply.
The item is ~20 grams and approx 2.75"x.75"x.50" and ships from Canada to China.

For some reason I thought you were returning it to the US.  

 

Can you round those numbers.  It looks like inches but I don't know.

Thanks for the fast reply, rounding up it measures 3 inches long 1 inch wide and a half in thick.

It's all right.  Forget it, but right off the bat you mixed the two systems of measurement (grams and inches).

 

In any case, shipping to China with tracking is going to be expensive and the seller will likely just refund.

 

See the case through and escalate when required.  If you don't get shipping fees or a refund call eBay when the time comes.

Just don't do what the buyer in the other thread did.

A refund request was accepted only after I asked ebay for help (not escalated) ebay has basically said "work it out with the seller" for now. The seller asked me if I had his packaging, I said no that it had been thrown out, seller has since ignored my emails.
I will now ask the seller to advance the shipping costs and see where we end up.

asking eBay 'to step in' = escalating the case

The wording has changed in the last year or so which is why most of use the term escalate.

 

You did ask them to step in and they told you to work with the seller? I would phone eBay and tell them the seller is ignoring you and that you don't have a label to ship the item back. If you have asked them to step in and they have given you a deadline to ship the item...phone them before that deadline.

 

As others mentioned, do not buy your own label as you probably won't get reimbursed.  The seller is not going to pay for the shipping back...it is too expensive to China and it's unlikely that eBay will pay for it either so best case scenario is that you will be refunded without having to make the return.

eBay needs to either set up a system that is clearly explained to both buyer and seller when the nad case is filed OR

tell buyers that return shipping will not be paid for international situations.  

To tell buyers that they are covered and them leave them hanging is not acceptable.

Yesterday as I was buying a paypal shipping label it occurred to me that when asked the country of origin the pull down menu includes every country in the world.

 

That's an indication that return CPO labels can be bought from other countries.

They are asking where the item was made. What does that have to do with CP labels being bought from other countries?

When they ask country of origin I've always believed that they are asking where it's being shipped from.

 

It's never occurred to me that they might be asking where the item was made, but maybe they are.

 

If so, then everything I've ever sold has been made in Ontario.  Ooops!

Well they already know that a Canada Post package is being shipped from Canada. 🙂

The country of origin is strictly for customs so that they know which rate to use for duty....assuming that there is duty.
