hello all,not really something that happened to me, but a friend of mine, who is new to ebay, is asking me this:
He bought a RC car from some seller in the US, who is using ebay's GSP and the seller did not ship it's been 10 days. Usually ebay's GSP, as I've dealt with it before, notifies the buyer as whether the item shipped or not and supplies him with tracking numbers throughout the whole process. My friend, bought the item, talked to the seller and then BAM! seller stopped responding to his messages and no updates whatsoever , whether from GSP or the seller, on his package being shipped. Now he's asking me if he should open a case or not.
Thanks!

Sometimes sellers don't mark their items as shipped, or even update tracking information unless requested from the buyer. But, if your friend has already contacted the seller and they are now not receiving messages I would open up a case. Even if the seller has shipped it, the case will force the seller to reply.
Keep in mind after 45 days, no cases can be filed.

Hello 'urienrxo',
Along with all the encouraging advice you will want to give your friend, be sure to encourage
him to post his own questions on the board.
But okay, first of all 10 days in itself is no cause for alarm and waaay too soon to file a claim.
Unless, - the seller has closed up and is now listed as "No longer a registered user".
That's always a bad sign, -- so the initial thing your friend should look at is the seller's feedback page.
How much is there?
If the seller is one of those huge places with tens of thousands of shooting star feedback, he is
not likely ignoring your friend but rather considers the question to be a premature panic note,
having too many things to do to worry about impatient newbies.
Assuming the seller is still registered and selling, - if all his other feedback looks good with mostly
happy customers, - there is probably no need to worry.
Many people have had difficulty with that GSP, and if your friend has not been given any kind of
tracking/shipping number/information by week 3 he may want to gently contact the seller again.
Outraged nagging after only 10 days rarely works.
If he hasn't heard anything after 3 weeks, he can sweetly explain his concerns to the seller, adding that
he regrets he now sees no other option but to file a claim.
Send your friend the following link about items that don't show up:
http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/item-not-received.html
Be sure to remind your friend that he does have 45 days in which to open a case (not conclude one)
and that the very best way to get all those fun ebay gadgets is to wait for them to show up.
At the same time, he must never let anyone delay him past day 45 with pleas to wait longer or promises
about returns or refunds. If no money and no item, file a claim by no later than day 43.
For now, though, it seems GSP items often take a rather circuitous route to get to the buyer, so
perhaps his item is dilly-dallying along in the system.
Best wishes

45 days after the item shipment? or after the payment has been made?

If you had perused the link I provided (and I strongly urge you to do that) you would have
seen the Timelines section where it says:
"You must open a case within 45 days of the end of the listing".
Never let that day pass you by.
