On what would have been his 198th birthday, Sir John A. Macdonald's statue in Kingston, Ont., has been defaced by vandals, with the words 'murderer', 'colonizer', and 'this is stolen land' written on the monument.

Probably needed a cleaning anyhow.
Probably not because there was a celebration scheduled for noon today at the statue.

Didn't this happen years ago in Texas with a Columbus statue?
I think at that time they blamed the Mexicans.

Not sure about Texas. It would think it would be more the Natives angry at the Columbus concept than the Mexicans.
Well putting paint on a statue is a lot better than other things that have happened in history.....such as the bombing of the Hotel David killing 90 innocent people when Israel was demanding their State. The Native people just want to be treated fairly and with respect in their 'own' land.

You should tell them that. Personally.
How is this different from destroying hydro towers or damaging railway tracks. The indians are proud of doing both of these terrorist acts.

Whoever did it they will be punished if caught, fair enough, but lets don't assume anything at this point, especially race.
That would be too easy.

I have not heard the term " Indian " in years.
You must mean The Cleveland Indians. Well it is the off season & they need something to do prior to spring training.

Possibly. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do when someone isn't listening. The Americans did it....the people in India did it....the people in Ireland and the list goes on and on and on. History is strewn with people who have stood up to those who were on their land and controlled them by one means or another for too long.

In actual fact, when I read this, I thought it was the last thing the Natives would do. Most likely some young vandal or vandals who knew that their messages would get blamed on the natives.
When the vandal defaced the cenotaph in Woodstock with swastikas, I didn't blame Hitler or the German's who live in the area.

This is an unfortunate side effect to the Idle No More protests. Things like that always bring out the copycats who have no cause or motivation in life. The same kind of people who deface the murals painted on buildings in London - or claim to be artists and paint graffitii on private property.

They do? Usually graffiti artists are respectful of other's art.
What was it, about a year ago when Grant Gardner at the auction house on King had a mural painted on the side of his building because he knew vandals would not deface it.....but he came to work and found men painting it over with black paint because the by-law officer of London said murals were not allowed. I'll bet the city paid deep for that!
