Has anyone here ever made a claim to TPI for an item paid by check with no other record of the sale other than emails between the buyer and you?

That is:  If there is no paypal or eBay receipt how does TPI handle the claim?

No, I haven't done that but there should be a copy of some sort of invoice or receipt that you gave the buyer?

Why do you need a record of the sale? What you might need is some actual evidence that you sent something and a statement from the recipient that they did not receive it.

I'll ship via tracked packet and ............ I don't use checks myself.......... but doesn't the buyer get the cancelled check in the mail?

So that would cover those two things.

A statement from the buyer would not be an issue.

I've heard of people having a lot of trouble with PO claims when shipping between friends etc. and not business transactions ...........

so I don't want to spend $15 for insurance if there's not much hope of collecting if something goes wrong.

Can Canadians buy transit insurance from US based companies like U-Pic.com or Shipsurance.com

$15 should cover you for a $1000 item.
