If you are saying that you bought something from an ebay seller and he invoiced you through PayPal that is the way it is sometimes done. Ebay owns PayPal. Ebay is a venue to list and advertise items and PayPal bills and collects the money. Yes, you are able to open a dispute on paypal, if you need to, if anything goes wrong.

What do you mean by the 'case was closed' Was there actually a case opened and the transaction was cancelled or are you just saying that you didn't pay through ebay?

hello.... it is never recommended that you complete a transaction without the proper ebay and paypal paper trail.. however in saying this, sometimes glitches do happen and a personal invoice is used to complete the sale.. when doing this.. make sure the seller adds to the invoice what he is billing you for..he can do this in the notes section of the invoice.eg/ " A PAIR OF NIKE SHOES, SIZE 10, BLACK WITH BLUE TRIM.. ITEM NUMBER# ??????"...ITEM NUMBER IS THE LISTING NUMBER FROM EBAY... as long as there is a description of what he is billing you for, and you use paypal.. you are covered for the transaction... hope this helps..
best of luck..

Another example of a guy who thinks he is smarter than he is.
If your seller thinks he can cheat you by persuading you to buy "Off eBay" he will be surprised to learn that PP has very strong Buyer Protections too. And if you are using PP to process a credit card, you have the further backing of the card's chargeback process in case of problems.
But.
You didn't mention that there was an eBay case open. Start at the beginning. When did you buy? What was the reason for the Dispute?
