U.S raises their import duty-free level to $800 from $200

Seems like our friends to the south are raising their duty-free level from the current $200 up to $800.

Apparently this will be effective either now or in the next few days.

In a related story, Canada is considering raising their import duty-free limits from $20 to a generous $22. 🙂

You can write your MP about raising our postal import limit to match the 'drive through" $200 limit at

You don't even need to stamp it. Bond fans can have the thrill of marking the envelope OHMS.

If you don't know her name, but do know your postal code, you can get the name and the email address here:

I dont know why any seller here would want to lobby for an import limit to go up.  The dollar will go back up, no import charges would allow the globla shipping program to be very attractive to canadian buyers and it will be even worse for Canadian sellers here

If Canadians start spending more $ outside the country the value of the $ will drop, not go up.

The limit should probably be raised a bit, say to $40.

There is just too much stuff sneaking across now, to worry about the cheap stuff. Put the limited custom resources to doing a better job on the more expensive shipments.

I have a competitor over on the Canadian A-river who sells large numbers of items from the USA and judging by feedback very little gets caught by customs. I estimate at least half a million in GST/HST not collected.

-.-

Yep.

Raise the limit, then enforce the limit.

Charge on the expensive stuff even if it's physically small.

And while we're at it, why isn't it possible to buy cannabis in the liquor store?
