Nobody 'pockets' the exchange, or at least no more so than if you were to buy US dollars at your bank and then sell them back 10 minutes later.

There is a service charge.

But just as an Australian Shepherd is not a daschund, yet both are dogs, the loonie is not the same as a UD dollar. Or an Aussie dollar. Or a Hong Kong dollar. They all happen to have the same name, that's all.

You can ask your Canadian sellers if you can pay in Canadian dollars. The amount will be different since at the moment a loonie can be purchased for 93 cents or so American.

Most sellers consider it too much work for a small amount of money, but if your purchase is over $100, you can ask.
