USPS Claims?

How do I go about putting in a claim?

I went across the border to send 2 packages, 1 to Korea and the other to the UK, because I wanting a tracking # for these orders.

I filled out the 2 sizes of custom forms, 1 large and 1 small because I didn't know which one to use.

Got up to the window, the one package to Korea - couldn't get a tracking # for because it cost more than the item's shipping, so I had to use the small green customs forms.

The order to the UK, the clerk was going to send it the same way. I explained I needed a tracking number and insurance. So with this parcel I needed the larger white customs form, paid the extra postage, etc.

The problem being the clerk originally threw the large white forms in the garbage because I didn't need them.
Now I needed that white form for the one I was sending to the UK.

So she went into the garbage and retrieved the form, put it on the parcel and sent it off.

It cost me over $35 US for that service!! She never check to see if it was the right customs form. And guess what, she put the customs form for Korea on the package.

This is what I got for it, my customer never got the parcel... Even though there was a separate tracking number put on the front of the package, and the UK address was in bold felt pen, they never scanned the tracking number, the post office only scanned the Customs Forms. No ever checked the address on the package, everything was done off the customs form.

Instead of my customer in the UK getting his parcel, Korea got it and the only reason I know that is because I emailed him.

I got him to take pictures of the parcel and email them to me.

Thank God, my customer in Korea spoke great English. This customer was able to send this package on to its proper destination, which cost ME another $35US to send it on.

I went to the PO, and the clerk apologized for the mistake, took all the info back to her boss, and I haven't heard back, that was quite awhile ago.

So I wrote USPS, got an email back about sending the tracking tracking number etc. which I included in my email. duh

Is there a form somewhere I can fill in and send?

I am hitting my head against a brick wall....

By the way, scr*w going to the US to post items, it isn't any cheaper and the service really su*ks. I have had nothing but the run around since Sept on this order, but that isn't the only one.

Thanks for any help, it would be greatly appreciated

USPS Claims?

Be grateful it only cost you an extra $35. I would say you were very lucky.
USPS is almost impossible when it comes to claims, especially when something gets lost over-seas. International claims take 1 1/2 to 2 years before they are even seriously considered. Been there!

Their claim system is even worse than Canada Post.

USPS Claims?

I will never send anything by USPS again, Canada Post has been awesome for paying out claims.

I thought I was doing a great service to my customers, but it always bites me in the butt.

The time I waste going down, service s*cks, and they really do not care when something goes wrong.

It may cost a bit more here but usually everything goes well compared to USPS.

So I guess Canada Post Rocks!!

How can you blame the entire postal system for your mistake & a specific clerk's mistake?

YOU didn't learn enough about the right forms to use & YOU trusted the clerk without checking what they were doing. Don't forget to look in the mirror when placing blame.

They pulled paperwork out of the garbage & you trusted that they grabbed the right ones without checking. Sorry but who's the fool here? You're lucky it was the papers for your other customer instead of someone else altogether.

Sheesh!

How do I go about putting in a claim?

I guess Jakeangel couldn't read the original question, I asked for help in putting in a claim.

That is not the first time that USPS has fails.

Delivery time to and in the US is way faster when mailed from here then mailing it from the States. And I have proved it time and time again.

Yes maybe I should have been more on the ball, and was partially my fault but that is not what this posting is about, but Jakeangel is PERFECT in everything they DO, RIGHT!!! And never stumbled.......

Sheesh!!!

Ah! you're one of those. I get it now. LOL

In the 4+ years I've used the USPS with 1000's of packages I've never had to make a claim so I wouldn't know how to but I felt the need to point out the obvious to you since you seemed to have missed it.

Sounds like sour grapes to me but whatever.

Perfect? LOL Hardly! But if I make a mistake or contribute to a mistake I certainly don't blame someone else for my incompetance.

USPS Claims?

You already did LOL.

You're running a business, it is your responsibility and your's alone to ensure your shipping practices comply with the requirements of the shipper, just as it is your responsiblity to count the money.

You screwed up, take it as a lesson and move on instead of looking for sympathy from the peanut gallery. Filing claims with shippers is pretty much standard fair, you should know how the process works and what's covered or not, before you use a shipper.

Maybe you should go back to post office and submit a claim.
