Uncomfortable with seller: fraud?

I am uncomfortable with a seller. He has only one comment: negative history of potential fraud. Comment was posted after I bid, which I won. But paying makes me very nervous about legitimacy of transaction. How should I proceed?

Pay using Paypal only. Keep an eye on when item is marked as being shipped. Keep in contact with seller if you have questions. If you have not received item in a couple of weeks (depending on where it is being shipped from), contact seller and ask if they have more info. Paying with paypal assures you that you are covered for the transaction. If item arrives, and it is not what seller described, open a claim. You will have to ship it back with tracking, but dont worry about that for now. Unless you are really uncomfortable with the transaction, and want to cancel, but seller is not obliged to do so.

You can contact the seller and politely explain your problem. Ask for a Mutual Cancellation of the transaction. This will free both of you from the deal and refund his selling fees (You do know that sellers pay eBay for listing, for selling, and for shipping right?)

If he agree, and he is not obliged to, agree to the MC promptly. Since you will receive nothing, you should probably skip the Feedback and Detailed Seller Ratings. Or leave a neutral/positive "Thank you for working with me." and a five for communication but no other Stars (which gives him three free passes.)

With only one feedback, it is also possible that the seller is feeling his way. Why kill his business with negatives before he gets his boots on the ground?
