Was just wondering how the winning bids work?

I bided on an item today and did not win, that's okay.  When I check on the winning bid it was for the same amount as my bid according to ebay.  Both were for five dollars.  Did ebay make a mistake in the posting or what?  When I made my bid it was already out bided so maybe the other bidder had already placed the same bid, so maybe it is first bid wins.  Thanks for any info.

yes,if the bid is the same,its who ever bid that amount first.

Experienced bidders will often bid in odd amounts to prevent this problem. For examply, instead of $5.00 bidding $5.03.

You should also know that the winning bidder may have also bid more than you, but will only be charged one increment higher than your underbid.
