Why do we need to pay extra for CO.UK visibility ???

I just run to this page:

http://pages.ebay.ca/education/started/Canada.html

Quoting:

When you list your items on eBay.ca, your listing will appear on the eBay site of every country to which you’ve chosen to ship.

Because eBay thinks that they can get us to pay for something that was otherwise free.
Besides- you have to see how many "individuals of questionable sanity" are out there to see if it works. i.e. profitable.

And then, you expand the FEE PER COUNTRY EXPOSURE into a buffet of options.

The fact that there may be any exposure outside of a given eBay.ANYTHING is at the grace of eBay.

And, eBay may not be as gracious in future as they are now.

Why do we need to pay extra for CO.UK visibility ???

Personally, I tried it on some of my listings, and sold zero to the UK for my efforts and extra fees. I think it's just another money grab for feebay, and is too expensive unless you are selling cheaper items.

AXE.

dipmicro nevermind about my answer to your reply on my post. I used your link here and got my questions answered. It's too bad they don't have the Australia site avaialable too. I am going to try it. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention! I was listing on .co.uk when I found the time because it was a good venue for me. Now I don't have to make separate listings and don't have to pay twice the conversion fees (for those of you that don't know, you are forced to convert the pound into the US dollar and then again to CDN to deposit it into your account). This is great and if I have to pay extra that's fine with me. It will limit the amount of other listings I have to compete with.

I was kind of hoping a pink would explain this "misleading advertisement".

Perhaps is not convenient to answer this time.

There is a difference.....

If you don't pay the extra fee you listings will be visible but unless they are relatively unique they will not show in a basic search (depending on the search terms of course) or will show up AFTER domestic listings in a section called "additional items from International sellers".

If you pay the extra fee your listings will show in basic search results along with uk based listings.

Is it worth it to pay the extra fee? It depends, if your buyers don't find you using search it's pointless, if buyers use search but use terms which only give a very few results it's pointless, if you are listing items which buyers will only find via search and those searches return many pages of results it MIGHT be worth the extra charge.

There can be a big difference between "it's possible for buyers to see your listing if they look hard enough" and "your listings will be as easy to find as any others".

Hi dipmicro,

The International Site Visibility fee that you're referring to gets a Canadian or US listing into the default search on eBay.co.uk. Previously, items listed on eBay.ca could only be found in the international expansion module, the box at the bottom of search where you can see more results from international sellers.

If you don't opt for the optional feature, you still show up on the UK site, but not in the default search, which is the way it's been for ages. There may have been a time when all US and CA listings showed up in UK default search, but it was before my time (and I've been here for five years now). I know the UK ran some tests in select categories to allow some US items to appear in the default search prior to the launch of ISV, but those have been discontinued.

Hope that clarifies.

Yes, it does. Thanks for explanation, I never realized there were multiple levels of visibility on CO.UK.

Recped, thanks was for both yourself and Miriam.

I used to run entire store under separate account just on CO.UK but this "International Visibility" is cheaper on fees, it provides same level of visibility as having a UK listing. I did not realize my listings can be accessed through CO.UK without that. So I guess such visibility is not really useful if it's hard to find 🙂

Limited international visibility and any problems associated with Best Match can be almost entirely avoided if you can find widgets to sell which are relatively unique and are found by buyers using searches which normally return only a few results.

With many of the records I sell a search on the artist name only returns a handful of listings. For those selling items which are usually searched for by very popular brand names it's a different situation.
