I was looking to purchase something of interest (a rpg wii game). Since it didn't list the shipping I contacted te seller to get the shipping cost.

I just got this as a reply...

"Go on canada post and put my postal code in then ur's . the box size is 8h x 6w x 1d. it will tell u the cost"

Wow, this is a first time for me that a seller, actually doesn't bother to give me an answer. I have to do all the work to get an answer.

Just for that, I'll be looking elsewhere. What a nice way to treat a potential customer.

Is it just me who finds this somewhat insulting (might not be the right word but I can't think of another right now)

in the end, the seller never provided his postal code nor the weight of the item, so even if I were to check it out, might not even be close to the price he would charge me.

Either way I am indeed moving on. I just needed to share this unique experience.

It's actually amazing that you feel entitled seller should do this work for you.

Seriously?

Of course the buyer is entitled to this information. The seller wants to sell their product so they should provide all of the necessary information which includes shipping cost. The seller has the product, knows the size, weight, how they are going to ship it.....all information needed to figure out a shipping cost. In most cases there is no reason why that information shouldn't already be in the listing.

It doesn't matter if the seller was asked the same questions five times on that same day...their answer was still not acceptable imo.  If they are tired of answering the question.....then put the price in the listing.

OR there is a "respond to question" part that says "put this question on listing" that way everybody know that this question was asked and an answer was provided.

I agree.

However, we deal with individual human beings, not professional sellers or businesses in most instances. At times people overreact.

Only a very poor seller and an even worse buyer would think  something like this.    How can a buyer know what shipping method the unhelpfull seller is going to use.    Only a scammer would not tell the buyer the shipping costs before bidding

I've had the same problem.

The solution is simple.

Email the seller that you've calculated that shipping will be $X,  and quote X at about half of actual cost of shipping.

That will get the seller's attention.

What's this about a buyer block list?? I'd love to find out where it is so I could use it with a seller who tried to nail me with shipping after 30 days and positive feedback, when it was listed free shipping.

I'd also use it for sellers who charge Canadian taxes that Canada doesn't charge...

90+% of eBay sellers are great. A block on the others would be a great way of sending a message to them.

Closeup, the buyer block list is for sellers to block bad buyers who could cause financial damage to them, such as scammers. There is no list for buyers to block bad sellers. Just don't buy from them.

I asked a seller for shipping costs and got a 1/2 page reponse on how the find shipping on the EBAY posting and how not to bother people with such things because they don't have time to check emails. This guy will not last long as a seller.

How would you like to come upon a seller so arrogant that they actually state in their description that 'if you have to ask how much  the shipping is, you can't afford my stuff' !  ( and much of her so-called 'stuff' was junk-drawer junque )

i don't know if a seller is required to post shipping costs now, or not, but this was a  while back.  I notice she no longer has it in her text.

Then you are a good seller:-) I hate surfing through what is not told especially shipping costs.. I end up passing any seller who says they might or might not ship to Canada.. SHUCKS and mostly an item that I like too, don't wanna ask the seller only because might get disappointed they won't want to ship to Canada.. I wish more sellers would ship to Canada not all of us are bad and the ones who are ruin it for the rest of us who want the US products..With our loonie being at par and better I have come back to shop ebay since haven't done it in a few years..Too cold to shop here in Canada and US has better choices and prices compared to Canada..

Lazy seller yes.

Usually i know the shipping prices without even looking. Ship prices should be listed flat rate or you just put in your postal code and it should tell you.

absolutely. and to +1 the above. Just answer the question, no matter if it's in the auction or is a dumb question. It's just easier to answer the question and move on.
