WANT TO KNOW
HOW SHIPPING IS CALCULATED?
Extra shipping costs include a portion of taxes and other expenses directly related to shipping your package. Please see my “About Me” page for complete details.
The bidders have responded tremendously with some of the kindest feedback comments ever and my shipping DSR's which would occassionally slip temporarily to 4.7 during the month, have been a solid 4.9.
Again thanks for the helpful tips!

Check out this fellow's feedback and DSR's. I have absolutely no qualms about buying one of his stars which I just did.

I have been offering free shipping since October to take advantage of the perks ebay was offering. I was hoping I could improve my Shipping an handling charges rating that was hovering around 4.6
It worked for just over a month or so, made it around 4.75 or so.
Guess what? Now it's down to 4.55!!! I think canadian buyers are unhappy because I have to charge $4 to ship to Canada and it's free to the US. So they tank my rating. What can I do? Small packet is $8.55 and a domestic parcel with Canada Post averages $10-12!!!
NO WAY to win...

If you think this, it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Not only do we charge full price for shipping but we actually make a handsome profit in that department.
Looking at your other DSR's, I can see that it's not a coincidence.
It's all about perception, and the power lies within yourself to better your scores.
"Free shipping" is not necessarily the solution. It's about how your buyers relate to you - only you can change that.
This subject has been discussed to death (well, almost). Just use the search function to find some insight on how you can raise your scores, should that be a goal of yours.
Good luck!

and then they say... I am going to change them.
And that is a big mistake.
A seller cannot change DSR.
A seller can change anything and everything they will give that seller better ratings.
Perhaps that is the important thing to learn.
Adjust each and everything you make a buyer feel like they are a million dollars.
I am now getting 20 % discounts on a regular basis.
Here is what I do
(1) describe what I sell to the fullest with a short TOS.
(2) Communicate, communicate, communicate .. There is a way to do it and then there is a way not to do it.
If you have a problem... Look at yourself... Because that is you and everything you are that is talking in that email to the buyer. If you have a temper, a mean streak,, and are very argumentative that will show up in all emails...
I have changed my view of the world. I will enjoy life to the fullest and that carries through to everything I do.. Both on and off eBay in my every day actions...
Communication is words... and it is the way you put words together that shows buyers who you are...
It has been some very simple communication and the buyer leaves feedback... Very pleasant to deal with... and not just one buyer......
(3) I ship on Monday and Thursday each week... 3 business days after buyer pays.... and I immediately tell buyer when I ship and how long it will take.
(4) I never skimp on S & H to make it look good to US buyers... Charge exact shipping cost plus a small Handling fee...
Shipping is via Canada Post... probably the most important thing to do is sell inventory that is unique and something that everyone would want.
I fixed the little things... and it appears to be working. Buyers are leaving the best of feedback, and super good ratings...

I ship same day or next day, depending on how late I receive payment.
I charge less than actual shipping cost.
I don't charge handling or for packing materials. (I use brand new boxes, bubble wrap & lots of styrofoam. I email purchaser advising when & how I shipped their items with estimated time for delivery.
My DSR for shipping rate hovers around 6.9
I get tons of email from purchasers asking if I shipped their item.
I give up!

You may want to increase your buyer's perception of satisfaction by giving them positive feedback immeditely upon receipt of payment (it only takes a few seconds) instead of waiting until the goods have beeen received by your buyers. .

Cumos, WOW! That's powerful!
I have always advocated the above because it really works. Not sure if you took the cue from my postings or not but you are on the right track, fer sure:-)
