email/username

I do not agree with your requirement for your email to be different from your user name. My primary email address has always been the same as my username on eBay. I would like to change the domain from yahoo to outlook and your policy won't let me.

Re: email/username

That policy has been in effect for about seven years now.

eBay will not change it because one person objects.

You mean eBay actually has full control on how you use your email and username??  I am puzzled as I would think we would have rights to change them if need.

Re: email/username

"requirement for your email to be different from your user name."

That requirement has been around for fourteen years.  And it makes sense. Back in 1995-1998 we could use our email address as user ID.  That was changed in 1999 (my user ID was changed from my previous email address to the current ID in August 1999).

The purpose here is safety: your safety.  eBay does not want anyone's email address available anywhere on the site except when you actually complete a transaction. Even sellers are no longer allowed to insert their email address in the description portion of their listings.

It minimize the risks of crooks contacting you and attempting to defraud you.  Without your email address easily available, you are somehow safer.
