there's all kinds...how would you handle?

people never cease to amaze me. i sold item number 250079284303 recently-a brand new vase i picked up at an auction. when i say brand new, i refer to condition and cleanliness. this wasn't a vase that you would really use on a daily basis, nor did it look like it was used-more of a display item. in any case, i brought it home, listed it and put it on my shelf waiting to package it to send out.
so i sent it out last week. this morning i find this email:

I can't believe that you sent me a dirty vase!
Could imagine the way your kitchen looks like!

whaaa?????:O

dirty???? this vase is MINT-NOT dirty!!! i don't understand people and the way they think. First of all, any item i receive that i keep for myself (especially one that is used, albeit mint), i wash as soon as i get it home, and expect it to have a little handling dirt on it. Secondly, even if it WAS dirty, which i promise you, it wasn't-i would never ask someone why its dirty and secondly insult them and make assumptions about their kitchen!!! unless the item WAS dirty to the point of permanent damage and highly misrepresented or something to that affect. the most this vase could have had were fingerprints...well what does she expect me to wear latex gloves for god's sakes?

i don't know how to respond to this girl. my feedback is hanging in her hands...i want to reply with something to the effect that no need for personal insults here!!, but i also want to be careful.

BTW...and incidentally, my kitchen is VERY clean!:-)

am i overreacting here? does anyone else understand why someone would send an email as stupid and meaningless as this? and again...this vase was sooo not dirty. i wonder if she's trying to threaten me with a negetive? grrrrrrrrrrrr....

advice? 😐

Unfortunately, there are many idiots in the world. Maybe offer her an exchange?

Wait until your emotions ease off. Write the PITA, explaining how surprised you were to receive her letter. Mention that you had indeed cleaned them as the auction pics show and that you are sorry she is not satisfied with them. Ask her what SHE would like to do at this point.

If she is bucking for a partial refund, then that's your call. I personally would say a full refund or nothing. I will not be blackmailed into that b.s. Keep it factual, professional and void of any emotions and see if/how she responds. Keep us posted and good luck.

You've got your terminology incorrect. Brand new means brand new, never been used or displayed. It doesn't mean used, old, vintage etc but in excellent looking new condition. If your listing said brand new then that's what the buyer was expecting.

My eyes widened at reading their comment to you. That was a bit much but the world is filled with lots of different people that think and do things many different ways.

But I'd be sure to change your grading system and terms. Brand new means exactly that, brand new, not opened, never been used. I have stuff that is several years old here to sell but it's brand new. It's still sealed it it's packages. That's brand new even though it's a few years old. Something that's been opened and used or displayed even though it's in excellent, mint, pristine etc condition is not brand new.

Maybe that jaded them and they said something stupid. Who knows. When emailing them back, if you choose to, I'd completely ignore that comment. No need to get into a pizzing match. Not necessary and serves no purpose.

hiya jakeeangel! this vase isn't brand new, but rather 'mint' condition, meaning excellent condition. it WAS used, and was stated as such (purchased at an estate sale). The description or title didn't read brand new.

in any case, even if it did, or didn't, my biggest beef is the personal insult-some people have no class.

IF the vase was dirty, and it wasn't!!, a more appropriate email from someone with a bit of class would go as follows:

received the vase today and was a little disapointed with the cleanliness of it, i was expecting it to be cleaner, or something to that effect.

in any case...i know its probably good business sense to deal with morons in a business like emotionless state, but i will never admit to anyone that one of my products is something that its not, merely out of fear...its just not who i am...

i did email her back and asked her to send pics of the dirt, give more details on the 'dirt' and that the only potential dirt on this vase would have been slight fingerprints...furthermore ended with a comment about HER needless personal insult. that was this morning and i haven't heard back from her.

as far as refund? forget it!! unless she can prove the vase was in a different state than described, i will not be blackmailed into something that isn't true...i stand by my products and describe them in a brutally honest way...besides, if she negs me, i'll just neg her right back...

...she just emailed me back saying there were flower petals inside bottom of vase...sheeesh man, big heavy sigh with a bit of a grrrrrrrr in there, where are those rolly eyed smilies when you need them...

...yup...i guess my kitchen is real dirty...

i reinforced the fact to her that this was AN AUCTION PURCHASE...and although in mint condition, was still previously owned by someone who ...yup...put flowers in it...i hope she can get on with her life after this devastating blow...

Yes, her comments were way over the top - but I would also have expected it to be clean. Did it have detrius inside?

some people have no class

If you're looking for people with class I don't think you should be looking on eBay. Not that they aren't here they are just far outnumbered by bottom feeders.

I think you are spending too much time analyizing what this person is complaining about. In life there are people that are never happy, and this is probably one of them. If they continue to bitch, leave them a neutral feedback. I don't have time for time wasters like this and neither should you.
