just curiouse what happens if the person doesnt pick up there parcel at the post office?and it gets returned to me

It was right there all along. Failing to collect your item within the time allotted by the post office is, to my understanding, the same as 'refusing delivery' UNLESS there was a valid reason the buyer rejected the shipment as noted below.

It comes back to you and you may or may not be charged for the return postage trip like submit payment prior to them releasing it to you. Or do you mean, 'What happens to the buyer?'

When you get it back, you should refund the buyer.

However, in my opinion, you only owe him the money you kept. Any postage, and certainly any return postage you might be charged, went to Canada Post.

I believe you would be entitled to reduce the refund by the amount you paid out for shipping and return.

I'm looking for the actual policy on this one and, like always, I cannot find it when I need it.

I recall* that when an item is returned to a seller due to it being left to languish at the post office or undeliverable due to an incorrect address provided by the buyer, the seller is obligated to do nothing at all. This stuck in my mind because it seemed questionable. Ethics aside, this is according to the policy as I recall it from discussing this type of scenario in the past with a customer service agent. As I recall, failure to collect your package nulls your buyer's rights under the Moneyback Guarantee.

That same policy does not, however, protect the seller from negative feedback for doing nothing at all to help you once you item is kicked back. But this is going from memory only.

Like I say, I cannot find the policy I want to cite right now but, if this were happening to me (again) I'd make sure that I had it in front of me and bookmarked before I made any decisions about how to handle this case. I will keep looking to see what I can find, this policy I want to cite is not in any of the usual places that I am checking.

Anyone else who has easy access to this section of the policy, please feel free to jump in and share.

*Insert a bunch of legalese which states I cannot be held accountable for misremembering the terms I cannot find and a whack of 'if you agree to accept this advice you waive the right to hold me accountable for anything that goes wrong as a result of that'. Please wait until someone has found the policy in question before you make any decisions about what to do here.

I will point out, however, that if a buyer is doing a search of ebay Help and Contact about 'what happened if my item isn't delivered because I wrote the wrong address' that the advice from ebay is not so brutally honest. It says instead, 'talk to your seller about how to pay for shipping it again or cancel the order' as opposed to 'tough nuts for you' which is basically what the policy amounts to.

Thank you very much for all your help,this may be a case of buyers remorse,i informed the buyer his items were at the po being no one was home to accept the package,and a note was also left by canada post,so the buyer is fully aware of where their package is.This person won three auctions.Now they sit for a week already.

In another circumstance (not the one I outlined above) I had a repeat buyer not collect their order at the post office for longer than a week and I was genuinely concerned because I was already getting that message from Canada Post saying it would be sent back if not collected in short order, and I also messaged the buyer. The buyer got it on the last possible day, I think. They replied to my message afterwards saying they had been out-of-town for a week, unexpectedly, due to a minor emergency involving an extended family member. Those things happen too.

Yet another time I was getting 'this order has better be picked up soon or else' messages from Canada Post which I was passing along to the buyer and they kept going to their post office with that Notice of Delivery card to collect it and their postal agent kept telling them it wasn't there. So that was a bit silly for the buyer. Finally, I advised them to take a print-out of tracking with them to the postal counter to SHOW the worker it was there and that's when the worker found it. (Something funny was happening at that postal counter, for sure.) The buyer said it was not the first time this sort of thing had happened that their parcel was mysteriously not to be found. But they got their order in the end and were happy so all is well that ends well, right?
