what would the ad cost for an item $22,000

Non-store seller:

Auction format:

insertion fee = free if you have a free listing left from your 50 free or $0.30 if you have to pay

reserve fee = 1% of reserve price or max $50

final value fee = 10% ($2,200) or $750 maximum so if sold at $22,000, the max fee of $750 would apply.

PayPal fee = $0.30 + 2.9% which would be $638.30.

Total = $50 + $750 + $638.30 = $1,438.30

Store seller:

for such a large item price, having a basic store would reduce total fee significantly

basic store fee = $19.95 a month on monthly plan, open for 1 month only, do not get year contract at $15.95 a month as there are stiff penalties for closing a store early

insertion fee = free if you have a free listing left from your 150 free otherwise $0.25

reserve fee = 1% of reserve price or max $50

final value fee = 4 to 9% depending on category but the $250 maximum would apply if sold at $22,000.

PayPal fee = $0.30 + 2.9% which would be $638.30.

Total = $19.95 + $50 + $250 + $638.30 = $958.25

The lower maximum final value fee charged for a store reduces the final value fee significantly so it pays to open the store for listing this one item.  You just start a store subscription, no setup or customization needed, list you one item at auction and then keep the store open for the month in case it does not sell and you need to relist the item.

You could also take advantage of the store lower FVF rates for other items you list during the month you have the store. Any items listed while having the store are charged store FVF rates. FVF rates are based on when the item is listed, not when they end. So all existing non-store listings will have 10% FVF rates if sold. All listing made when the store is in effect will have store FVF rates (4 to 9%) if sold. Nothing happens to listings when you start or stop a store other than the FVF rates are different.

One last thing. You may want to pay the $0.40 10 day duration fee for the auction on the $22,000 item to give it mare time to be found by buyers.

One more thing about store fees. Because you will most likely start your store on any day of the month, you will pay more than one month the first month. The store billing is one month in advance plus the current month prorated. You only see this on the monthly eBay statement at the end of the month (or the 15th if you are on a middle of the month cycle fee plan). So you will pay $19.95 plus a prorated month portion of the $19.95 based on the days used in the first month.

When you close the store, you will get a refund of the $19.95 based on the days used in the last month. You must pay a minimum of 1 month store fee so you cannot open just for a day and pay a day prorated. So use the store for 30 days to save on fees.
