NOT FOR LONG no one is going to be shopping soon on ebay.( from canada.) unless they want to get RIPPED-OFF from pitney bowes brokers,

From what I can see, you got ripped off by a seller using the postal system a while back.  That five inch Hummel "Going to Grandma's" figurine that you purchased could have been shipped for over fifteen bucks less than what the seller was charging if they'd used First Class International instead of Priority International.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

I have seen in every case this program has almost doubled the cost of shipping to Canada. What a terrible idea this was. The brokerage fees have always been a money maker for them and a losing situation for the buyer.. For me I will look to see if something I am interested in is in that program and I will simply delete that seller and move on.

Very disapointed.

Let's do some number-crunching here.  A resin moosehead with a shipping weight of five pounds would cost about US$35 to send to Canada by the least expensive mailing method.  The one you purchased had a GSP shippinig rate of $34.53, $19 of that was the seller's charge for sending it to Kentucky to be forwarded to you.  I don't see a doubled shipping cost here.

The import charges to Alberta for that moosehead are stated in the listing as US$12.53.  GST on an item with a declared value of US$69.99 would be US$3.50.  That leaves US$9.03 for the GSP's customs clearance charges and whatnot, and that's comparable with what Canada Post would charge (C$9.95) in processing fees if Canada Border Services stopped your item and charged taxes on it.  (And they can.)  Is nine bucks a "big money maker" in your books?  You decide.

I suspect what you're really objecting to is having to pay GST owing on a GSP purchase when the likelihood of having to pay taxes on a purchase sent by mail is a lot less.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

Bought a "Waves Plugin License" that the seller have to transfer to My Waves account thru WAVES personally. Pitney Bowes charged me 61.62$ for that. **bleep**!! Nearly half the price of the real item !! It's a license file that pitney and bowes has nothing do do with!! FRAUD, FRAUD

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

Your seller listed the item with free Priority Mail shipping within the United States.  If they'd stated the "shipping" properly, the Global Shipping Program wouldn't have been automatically added to the item.

Having said that, why did you purchase the item if you thought there was something wrong with the listing?

I'm boycotting all sellers who use this. It's a scam and it's gouging us Canadians through the roof.

Way to kill off your market FEEBAY!

It's only gouging Canadians that choose to purchase unsuitable items sold through the program.

Yes, it's an ill-thought out and badly executed program that's being inappropriately used by some if not many U.S. eBay sellers.  Is it a scam?  Not that I can see.

I dunno.  If I were in the market for an item like a mobile phone and I had more confidence in the GSP's transparency and customer service to those who were actually paying for the service, I'd sooner buy the phone through a GSP listing for twenty bucks plus import fees rather than through a seller using an unknown "standard shipping" service which could see me paying even more in import fees upon receiving the item than what the GSP's charging.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

Is thing a "thing" or is it a "service"?

I guess it must be a physical item since it was sent through the mails.

With the Global Shipping Program you are charged -- before the item is shipped-- duty, sales tax and a service fee. If you don't pay that, your seller will not ship.

Then the seller sends the item to Pitney Bowes in Kentucky, who re-send it  with little delay (I did have my doubts about this, but they seem to be quick) on to Canada. The money collected for tax and duty is remitted to the Canadian government.

And yes, just like every other merchant that remits taxes, there is a small fee paid by the government to the remitter.

Did your seller understand this ? Did he ship the item to Pitney Bowes? Ask him.

This would be the first step, because it sounds as if you paid the tax and duty twice.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

Hi!

First of all I live in Sweden. Didn´t realised that this was a Canadian Community. Sorry for that.

I conntacted the seller and he said that he couldn´t see any charges when he looked at the item on ebay.

The thing is that he can´t send anything too Pitney Bowes becuse there is nothing to send. The seller MUST transfer the license from his Waves Account to mine. No other person can do this becuse it´s his personal waves account. And why do i have to pay for shipping when there is nothing to ship and import. There is no fysical item what so ever. It had been cheaper to by  from Waves direct! The shipping was almost half the price och the item.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

The seller must have had the item listed in the wrong category, and it was assumed to be a tangible object. As far as I know it is not permitted to sell intangibles on ebay at all.It is certainly not permitted to sell them with the GSP. If the seller were to look at the item with the ship to location changed to Sweden, he would see the charges.

This is the most inappropriate use  of the GSP ever. In the circumstances you would win an item not received case as the seller has not shipped anything.

This is the item and it clearly shows the 'shipping cost' to Sweden.

I assume you have not paid for this, and I am puzzled as to why you went so far as to 'commit to buy' if in fact you did.

Having looket at the seller's other items,  it is obvious that they are either intangible or totally unsuitable for the GSP, and the seller is at least half responsible (they may not know they are using the GSP) as they must have entered a weight somewhere when listing for any shipping cost to appear. Wierd.

Not the fault of the program, but the fault of the seller. And the way it has been promoted by stealth.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

Hi! I did send an email to the seller.

This is What i wrote

Dear dharmabum81,

Hi! Why is it a shipping cost on Digital deliver?
IF you can please take My bid away.

Here is the Answer

not sure what you mean, it states free shipping when I pull up the listing, as like you said, there is no shipp as there is no shipping involved.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

Tell the seller to go to the shipping details page on the listing and change the destination country to Sweden then hit 'get rates'

They will be shocked.

Re: Pitney Bowes scam!

I bought some pens which cost $24.00. Shipping was  $13.20 and the $6.66 was a Pitney Bowes charge. Since when does a buyer have to pay import charges. I don't pay customs where I live because there is no place to collect it. I have seen this on many auctions, import charges etc. I make sure I don't bid on them. This one it was not upfront. It said Global $0.00, but it was there on the checkout invoice!! The seller didn't know how to cancel it.

When did this import charge start? How come Pitney Bowes collects the shipping charges? I can only be shipped by post. No other means is available. I resent having to pay extra for shipping.
