Managed Payments from a Buyers Perspective

I'll throw throw this out there for anyone interested in, for lack of better words for "chewing on it".

I recently made a purchase 2 weeks ago, going out on a major limb here, most likely a seller enrolled in Managed Payments. Purchase went through eBay as per normal standard procedure. In reviewing the transaction details in PayPal, the only way to match the particular  transaction visually is by the dollar amount. Being that exchange rates were in play the amount is not a precise match to Purchase History page. The Vendor name in PayPal is "EBay".

I realize some buyers may purchase using a PayPal balance while others through a bank or credit card. Or make transactions now and then, while others make 100's of transactions. At least in the past using PayPal the transaction was detailed to the seller involved and searchable.  Unsure how transactions looks currently when you view in your bank or credit card but to me, if all it states is "eBay" with the amount and an approximate date, it leaves a very bad aftertaste???

***Purchases from Sellers NOT enrolled in MP still show the business name in PayPal.***

Re: Managed Payments from a Buyers Perspective

I agree that it is confusing for the buyer, especially those who purchase here frequently.  I suspect that it will cause more 'unauthorized chargeback/don't recognize the transaction claims.

When you open up the transaction detail for a MP purchase it DOES NOT include the item(s) purchased specifics.

Re: Managed Payments from a Buyers Perspective

Before Managed Payments (MP)   both buyer and seller had a Paypal account.

All payments went through Paypal, from a buyer's Paypal account to a seller's Paypal account.    The seller was in control of the buyer's payment.

The buyer can see who the seller is and the seller can see who the buyer is on the Paypal record of the transaction.  Information in relation to the transaction is seen by both the buyer and seller on eBay and Paypal.

-------------

Things changed with MP.

A buyer can pay with Paypal, GPay, Visa or Mastercard.  The seller DOES NOT need an account with any of these four payment options....  The seller no longer needs a Paypal account to sell on eBay.

All payments by a buyer are made to Adyen eBay....  The buyer only sees Adyen eBay  recorded with their payment.

--------------------

Once Adyen eBay receives the payment,  the payment is transferred to the seller....  The only thing a seller sees is the name... Adyen eBay associated with the payment, while it is Adyen eBay that states the payment came from the buyer for a specific purchase.

The information about the transaction is presented on the Order Details page on eBay.

----------------------------

The fact that a seller does not have to be registered with Paypal, GPay, Visa or Mastercard to receive a payment with MP means that a buyer will  not see the seller's name associated with any of these payment options.

All payments are made to Adyen eBay,  with Adyen eBay  as the business receiving the payment.

Wouldn't a credit card company be considered a payment processor? They detail the specifics of each transaction. Ayden isn't technically advanced to do the same?

Re: Managed Payments from a Buyers Perspective

If a buyer pays with Mastercard..... I cannot receive the payment because I am not registered with Mastercard as a seller, and as someone that uses Mastercard for payments.

Adyen is registered with Mastercard and can receive payments from buyers that use Mastercard.

Before Managed Payments, both buyer and seller were registered with Paypal.  That is how Paypal worked  before Managed Payments.

With Managed Payments, buyers can use Paypal,  but sellers must use the Adyen approach to receiving payments,  and sellers do not need to be registered with Paypal.....

Re: Managed Payments from a Buyers Perspective

Could it be that Adyen handles the money for each transaction,   and eBay deals with everything else in relation to the transaction  as it relates to the relationship between buyer and seller?

My guess is that because eBay is a marketplace facilitator and considered the merchant of record for the transaction, eBay's name goes on it.  Perhaps there are technical limitations or privacy/security issues that prevent the seller's ID to be appended to the "eBay" tag at this time as well as transaction details being available through PayPal.

This isn't a problem exclusive to eBay.  My wife and I use the same PayPal account and there are mysterious transactions on the statement that I have nothing to do with, but my wife assures me are on the up-and-up.
