Seller lists items with free shipping but then cancels sale

I won an auction and had the seller cancel my purchase. When I questioned what had happened he said that there had been an error by his staff and that the shipping to North America is not free. The problem is all of his listings state free shipping! Anyone else run into this issue with any other seller?

I have reported several of seller's listing as having listing violations----but wanted to warn others

It worked out for the best judging by what I saw in the seller's feedback.

Walk away. No...run and don't look back.

Sellers like that are not good for business.

I wish eBay would get their act together and clean house.

That says to me that his story is true.

His employee listed all of the items incorrectly.

But his reaction, after contacting you, should have been to take them all down immediately, correct the shipping and relist.

There have been reports from sellers that their listings have been showing with Free Shipping, particularly to phone shoppers. As you can imagine this is a source of great angst with Canadian sellers who have high Canada Post rates to deal with.

But there have been similar reports from US sellers on the dotCOM boards.

What it comes down to is:

The seller is not going to ship at the total price you paid.

The seller will get a Defect for cancelling the sale.

The employee should be looking around for another job.

Four of the seller's 14 negative/neutral FB are about cancellations.

The seller (in India) starts penny auctions for wholesale lots. However, on my desktop all have a shipping cost.

The pieces are described as 'sterling silver plated ' or 'sterling silver overlay'. The amount of actual silver involved can probably be measured in micrograms.
