Worried about import charges

Hello,

So I recently bought and item (06/12/2020) and in the listing, it said no import charges. I went back today just to look over the add, and it now has import charges. Am I in the clear since duties gets charged at checkout and since I already paid when it said 0?

I purchased a 10oz silver bar.

An actual lump of metal, not a certificate or a medallion?

I was under the impression that bullion was not dutiable.

Still taxable however.

Silver seems to be selling for around $23US an ounce at the moment, so the import would be valued in the $287Cdn range.  And at 15% sales tax that's $43. Add on a ~$5 service charge-- and we're pretty close to the $51 that is being questioned.

A lot of guesswork and handwaving of course.

I have been having the exact same worry about those charges with HDL express… Sadly, as I found out in the faq section of ebay’s official web site, this seems to be just as legal as it’s painful lol, sorry:

Some items are subject to duties and/or GST when imported into Canada from the United States or from other countries. Whether or not duty and tax is applicable is dependent on a variety of factors, including item type, value, and the country where it was manufactured or produced. Sellers have no control over this, and as the rules are quite complex, will often not be able to tell you whether or not duty will apply to the item they are selling. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure the item can be legally imported into Canada, and, unless arrangements have been made to the contrary in advance, to pay any taxes and duties that might be assessed at the border.
