Falwell may of had his faults but he was also a God loving Christian, a modern apostle who preached salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. That's the way I'll remember Jerry.
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."--Unknown

The memory of a good person
is a blessing.
Proverb 10:7

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
(Revelation 21:4, KJV)

BEYOND THE GATE

Someone new has entered
our eternal home above.
The heavenly gate has opened wide
to welcome the one you love.
We cannot help the tears that fall-
our hearts need time to grieve
when earthly life has ended
and a loved one has to leave.
Yet even in the saddest time,
we know our Savior lives,
and we can trust completely
in the promise that he gives.
That in a glad reunion with the Lord,
our loved ones wait
to welcome us in joy
with no more tears
beyond the gate!

Gooooooooood morning friends!

Wow, it got really chilly overnight! Heavy rains took the humidity away, the air is sweet-smelling, and everything looks so GREEN!

Isn't our God wonderful? 🙂

Have a great day!

I rejoiced as well. One less person spewing hate and lies.

In another thread you said you had nothing against him as a human. So nothing personal but you're glad he's dead?

Thank you for making the difference between Christians and non Christians so obvious. Jerry Falwell would not have rejoiced over your death, and neither would I.

I feel a little bit like an idiot for asking this, but I will anyway. My brother is marrying a girl who's family is another faith, so they are going the JP route and having a basic secular ceremony. I have been asked to read from II Corinthians just to bring in some God... I can't remember if I should cite the passage 'address' before or after the reading, or at all. Suggestions? Hi Caf...not a stupid question at all! 🙂

I would say yes, cite the passage (chapter and verse): "From II (pronounced "Second") Corinthians (then the verse number), the Bible says "____"

TY, Julie. I just felt a little dumb about that because I was in church every Sunday until some point in grade 9, and I couldn't believe that I forgotten something so basic! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I thought I would post one by DD.

Sun Light

As the sunlight rolled into the valley
As the sunlight rolled onto the sea
As the sunlight rolled down for heaven
It brought joy and warmth to me

I remember the day it came
It came with the utmost cheer
It came when my skies were grey
And it made them crystal clear

I know the warmth will be with me
I an sure it will never leave
For when my skies turn grey
All I have to do is believe

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving a God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me."

"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him."

To: Commander and Chief of the Spiritual Armed Forces, Jesus Christ

Dear Lord;

I am writing this to You to request a transfer to a desk job. I herewith present my reasons:

I began my career as a private, because of the intensity of the battle You have quickly moved me up in the ranks. You have made me an officer and given me a tremendous amount of responsibility. There are many soldiers and recruits under my charge. I am constantly being called upon to dispense wisdom, make judgments, and find solutions to complex problems. You have placed me in a position to function as an officer, when in my heart I know I have only the skills of a private. I realize that You have promised to supply all I would need for the battle.

But Sir, I must present You a realistic picture of my equipment. My uniform, once so crisp and starched, is now stained with tears and blood of those I have tried to assist. The soles of my boots are cracked and worn from the miles I have walked trying to enlist and encourage the instructed troops. My weapons are marred, tarnished and chipped from constant battle against the enemy. Even the Book of Regulations (Bible) I was issued has been torn and tattered from endless use. The words are now smeared.

You have promised You would be with me throughout, but when the noise of the battle is so loud and the confusion is so great, I can neither see nor hear You. I feel so alone. I'm tired. I'm discouraged. I have Battle Fatigue. I would never ask You for a discharge. I love being in Your service. I love you LORD, But I humbly request a demotion and transfer. I'll file papers or clean latrines.

Just get me out of the battle--please, Sir.

Your Faithful, but tired, Warrior.

To: Faithful, but tired, Soldier, Spiritual Armed Forces
Location: The Battlefield

SUBJECT: Transfer

Dear Soldier:

Your request for transfer has been denied. I herewith present My reasons: You are needed in this battle. I have selected you, and I will keep My Word to supply your need. You do not need a demotion and transfer. (You'd never cut it on latrine duty.) You need a period of "R&R" -- Renewal and Rekindling.

I am setting aside a place on the battlefield that is insulated from all sound and fully protected from the enemy. I will meet you there and I will give you rest. I will remove your old equipment and "make all things new again."

You have been wounded in the battle, My soldier. Your wounds are not visible, but you have received grave internal injuries. You need to be healed. I will heal you. You have been weakened in the battle. You need to be strengthened. I will strengthen you and be your strength. I will instill in you confidence and ability. My Words will rekindle within you and renewed love, zeal and enthusiasm.

Report to Me, my tattered and empty soldier. I will strengthen you.

Compassionately,

Your Commander and Chief, Jesus Christ

Hi Lori

Your piece that you posted was very good...in fact it was excellant. Julie writes a bit also and I would encourage her to post also (hint, hint)..
God can take things that we all post and help someone along the way or encourage someone or maybe just encourage our own heart as we write. We may never know but He does.

Thank you for your kind words on the ones I post. It is a way for me to express the thoughts I have. They just come and I write them down. DD has wonderful poems on a wide base of subjects and she is the same way. They just come.

Lori ((hugs to you)) re your Dad. Continue to pray. Could you post his first name as it helps others to pray for him. Have you tried to see if he would seek help from medical people. There may have been something with the stroke that triggered his present actions that maybe medication could help with.

In the mean time lean on the arms of the Lord. Ever present He wants us to trust and lean on Him with all circumstances. He hears our faintest plea. And He cares for us far more then we can even understand.

A few lines from something I wrote years ago: (it is part of a longer poem). In our weakness He is strong. And our place of safety is just as the few lines describe. I have learned this in a practical way many , many times. My dearest wish is that many would find this place of peace, safety, strength, assurance, joy and so much more...

For I am but a frame of clay
All moulded by Thy hand
While, weak and fearful I may be
On Thee, I take my stand

For underneath are those strong arms
Above, the eagle's wings
Before the throne is Thy sweet blood
Which for my soul it sings.

Have to get back to work.
Take care
Andrew

Popping back in. Toolong a day at work (I started before daylight). I knew to give it up when I typed the same line 3 times in the document I was working on.

Lori we will keep your Dad in our hearts and prayers. Love is what will overcome I believe. I may post a bit on this later when I rest a bit. But keep loving him and praying.

Hi wattie and Julie. So Julie's in the army :-). That was a nice piece to post...lots of truth in that.

Well better go for a bit....pray without ceasing...leave the details to Him.

A Little Clean Joke:

A new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners.
At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a business card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned.
Added to it was this cryptic message, "Genesis 3:10." Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." Genesis 3:10 reads, "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked."
