Thanks everyone! The tide is on the ebb, and the tide was our main concern. We had a bad storm season last year, so we really battened down this year, and so far, everything has held.

So sad for DH. He spend all summer building a beautiful garden for me, using lots of things from the beach and planted my collection of rose bushes and my lilac grown from a cutting from Dad's garden, taken the morning of his funeral. All gone. He is just leaning on the railing, looking at the mess. The logs are too heavy for us to move, we will need to hire someone to do it. Only one firm is allowed to bring heavy equipment along the beach. My guess the line is going to be long for its services.

This is so minor when you think of the people's losses in the California fires, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Our house wasn't touched unless you count the salt water stains that make it hard to see out the window.

We are actually very lucky ducks, and I just need to remember to say that several times to myself today.

Prayers for all in the storm's path.

😞 Aaaaaww, so sorry about your garden Nikki, especially the lilac cutting from your Dad's tree. Maybe the people that currently live there would let you take a few more cuttings from it if you tell them your story?

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you're safe and so is your home.

Thank you Alison, April, Nancy, Lucie, Marion, Nellie, TOB, and BBBL, (hope I didn't leave anyone out)

We know we are lucky. I love the human spirit. As soon as the tide ebbed, everyone was out, cleaning up, making the best of things.

DSIL came over and helped us clear most of the logs off the sea grass, and our front area. There is now a huge swath cut where we used to have a small path. We now have no protection in that area and this is supposed to be a heavy storm year. However, we will deal with what comes.

TOB--when is your Mum's scan? Hope it is soon. I know how worrying this is.

Are you able to sand bag that area Nikki?

Alison thanks for the suggestion. That would be what we normally do, and the sand bags held all night and until the last two hours of the storm. This one took several ton logs and tossed them like toothpicks. The surf brought in so much sand it buried our sandbags--which we had piled 4 high. We will sandbag the area again, and hope there is not another storm like this one. It wasn't even that big of a storm, but it was just one of those things--the high tide, the excessive wind and the direction of the wind and the length of the storm. If it had been a nor'easter, we would have been fine.

We were pleased with ourselves, we thought we had really prepared, and as for wind and rain, we did well (we have a new gazebo that I wondered if we would see sail over the house, but it is fine.)

Everyone up and down the beach is trying to figure out what works, and what doesn't. All our sea grass held, we had no damage there so we think that is the best answer for us, but we have to wait until it spreads. 2-3 years from now, all should be perfect. Until then we had thought of having huge rocks put in front, but apparently some neighbours complained last year about others doing it, and the municipality has halted it. We have a call in to a pile driver to see what that costs, and if it still allowed on the beach. DH will spend time on the phone tomorrow.

We are both looking for our heating pads tonight.LOL

:^O Christine--thank you, I missed them, and although I think I have heard the second one, the first one is brand new and audacious. Is there no fear of lightning bolts? LOL

Okay, calm again. Dentist this morning, sandbagged for 2 1/2 hours this afternoon, raked the yard, and other than the very wide walkway looking like a bunker, things look much better. It should hold for most storms.

Hope everyone has a good evening.
