Everything stated by saturday is for all purposes correct. The only thing that could be added is that other Christian churches (Anglican etc etc etc) consider themselves as part of the ‘HOLY’ Catholic Church just not the ‘Roman’ Catholic church. Needless to say Protestant is derived from the original Latin word meaning protest.

Hello to everyone!

((((TOB)))) so nice to "see" you. I know this is such a tough year for you. You are always in my prayers.

Hi Nellie! How are the wedding plans?

There are "High Anglican" churches--The church I attend is definitely not and the congregation seem to identify themselves as not Catholic, not Protestant, but in the middle. We are asked to "sit, stand or kneel for prayer" and there is always some who kneel, some that sit, and occasionally some stand.

Wikianswers--"Anglicans do not believe in transubtantiation. (Catholics do)............They believe only in Baptism and the Eucharist as sacraments. Catholics have 7--Baptism, Penance, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Marriage,Extreme Unction and the Eucharist."

Anglicans permit priests to marry, Catholics do not.

As for the gay marriage issue, there are very few that perform gay marriages--it is an issue tearing the Church apart. Several conservative congregations are seeking to join the African Anglicans and leaving the Canadian Anglican Church for blessing gay unions.

Before I joined this church, I had already come to the conclusion that most of us are just trying the best they can to make it through. It occurred to me while I was sick. Some people act very badly out of fear, but underneath, most of us just want the same things and we are all God's children. I think I have found a good Pastor for me. His words come to me when I don't agree with another Christian on a belief and I try to think of both of us, with Christ in the middle, each of us holding His hands. As I said above, If both of us are centered in Christ, then the rest is details.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, we don't have to agree on all things. I love you all.

Hi everyone - thanks for all the informative answers. Tried to bring up Nellie's link but it's unavailable. Did a wikepedia, and it did say what I had thought from what little I remembered from history lessons. That though Henry did make the final break from Rome due to being unable to divorce Katherine of Aragon, a Church of England, different from Rome had existed from Saxon times, and it was this church he embraced and made himself head of. The comment I found interesting was I think saturday's and it was something I had always wondered about - in the High Anglican I attended we used to say but can't remember it now the 'Kryie Eliason' - 'I believe in the Holy Catholic Church' - I used to wonder why we said that - but now I understand - 'Holy Catholic' not 'Roman' !!! Oh the dogma !!!
And prior - yes I'd be interested in the comments of the Anglican minister!

Thats right mazyr, the creed states the "Holy Catholic Church" not the Roman Catholic church. The Roman Catholic church is what we usually refer to when speaking about Catholics. Thank you survivornikki, I had forgotten about the the sacraments. There is also something about Mary? I am not sure, it may be that Anglicans/CofE/ Epicopalean do not consider her a Saint.I am not sure.

My uncle is a retired CofE/Anglican minister (from the Christian side) His parishes were high anglican but they did not say the rosary. He taught and ministered many places. A wise man 🙂 He still is very involved in the diocesian synod.

The gay issue is huge and causing rifts. Co-incidentally a couple African Anglican friends are leaving their present churches to find one that suits their beliefs. They may switch to a Penetcostal or Methodist over the issue.

Saturday, I was surprised about the rosary. I have never seen anyone with a rosary from an Anglican church. The only time I saw them was with Roman Catholics at the Catholic school I attended.

As for Mary, I am not sure. My DDs both were married in a church called St. Mary's and it is Anglican so apparently she is thought of as a Saint by the church. I haven't gone to this Anglican church for long and the only mention was at Christmas, as in "Mary and Joseph".

I have discussed with our priest that it is very hard for me to accept the idea of any saints and he is not fussed about that. He is a scholar and historian, and hearing his interpretation of the Scriptures is really interesting. His take on John is that John just couldn't bear anyone disagreeing with him, and therefore his letters are about love (Christ) but then his personality asserts itself and the anger and hate come in. He believes Matthew, Mark and Luke speak more to Christ's reality.

Myself, I am a simple person, and what makes sense to me is what I believe. So much of that I came to peace with in the cancer ward. To me, God is love. The details don't mean much. I don't want to get bogged down and judging another--especially a sister and brother. It is why I wondered if this little church would "fit" me. If this priest started condemning other Christians for what they believed, or preached against nonChristians or "love your neighbour" it would not be the place for me. I feel truly blessed that as I started a search for a place to regularly worship, I found this place.

I have strayed a long way from Marion's question. Sorry!

Nikki, you haven't strayed far at all - it developed into a discussion I found interesting and informative. I totally agree with you about finding a pastor that doesn't condemn others for how they choose to believe, a gem to be sure.

If I had found a church that spoke of God's love and peace I'd be there every Sunday with bells on too but that hasn't been the case yet. So do my personal thing and appreciate God's creations in the trees, flowers birds and fur creatures every day.

Alison, I think you hit the nail on the head with that statement.

I understand your appreciation of God's creation in nature. I feel especially close to Him when I walk on the beach.

One man, one woman, one family for a lifetime, that's the message.

Pope restates gay marriage ban after California vote

VATICAN CITY, -- Pope Benedict, speaking a day after a California court ruled in favour of same-sex marriage, firmly restated on Friday the Roman Catholic Church's position that only unions between a man and a woman are moral.

Benedict made no mention of the California decision in his speech to family groups from throughout Europe, but stressed the Church's position several times.

"The union of love, based on matrimony between a man and a woman, which makes up the family, represents a good for all society that can not be substituted by, confused with, or compared to other types of unions," he said.

The pope also spoke of the inalienable rights of the traditional family, "founded on matrimony between a man and a woman, to be the natural cradle of human life".

On Thursday, the California Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriages in a major victory for gay rights advocates that will allow homosexual couples to marry in the most populous U.S. state.

Last year, Italy's powerful Catholic Church successfully campaigned against a law proposed by the previous centre-left government that would have given more rights to gay and unmarried couples.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that homosexuality is not sinful but homosexual acts are, and is opposed to gays being allowed to adopt children.

The California court found laws limiting marriage to heterosexual couples are at odds with rights guaranteed by the state's constitution.

U.S. President George W. Bush, who is opposed to gay marriage, prayed "for the family" with the pope at the White House last month during the pontiff's visit there.

Last year, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, the head of the Italian Bishops Conference, made headlines with comments that critics said equated homosexuality with incest and paedophilia.

After he made the comments - which Bagnasco said were misunderstood -- graffiti reading "Shame" and "Watch Out Bagnasco" appeared on the door of the cathedral in northern Genoa, where Bagnasco is archbishop.

The pope, who backed Bagnasco, will visit Genoa his weekend.

Opponents of gay marriage in the United States vowed to contest the ruling with a state-wide ballot measure for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages.

Good evening everyone. I do hope each and every reader is found well and at complete peace.

I feel urged to share a little something.

He said to them, “For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain. Move hence to yonder place,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” (St. Matthew 7:20)

Many would know that this form of faith is described as the smallest and is likened to the smallest seed grain and that is the mustard seed. This verse has comforted and sometimes preplexed people for generations. Scholars and teachers can help us understand it and even to have us understand how it will be full filled in a coming day literally.

And then there are those who understand it from a living practical sense. We know it is not the smallness of the seed but the greatness of the object and source of faith.

The honest living and absolute trust of the smallest child in the one who is their father. Daddy says so then it is true. No questions asked , just the complete knowledge of that thought.

As a living witness to the power of that tiniest of faith's ability to split the universe - all 15 billion light years of it before one's eyes I offer the following little thought I received in an email from a dear friend. I hope that some one out there in ebay lurkland will enjoy it. Take care.

THE TRIP HOME

A pastor had been on a long flight between church conferences.
The first warning of the approaching problems came when the sign on
the airplane flashed on: Fasten Your Seat Belts.

Then, after a while, a calm voice said, 'We shall not be
serving the beverages at this time as we are expecting a little
turbulence. Please be sure your seat belt is fastened.'

As the pastor looked around the aircraft, it became obvious that many
of the passengers were becoming apprehensive.

Later, the voice on the intercom said, 'We are so sorry that we
are unable to serve the meal at this time. The turbulence is still
ahead of us.'

And then the storm broke . . .

The ominous cracks of thunder could be heard even above the roar of
the engines. Lightning! Lit up the darkening skies, and within
moments that great plane was like a cork tossed around on a celestial
ocean. One moment the airplane was lifted on terrific currents of
air; the next, it dropped as if it were about to crash.

The pastor confessed that he shared the discomfort and fear of those
around him. He said, 'As I looked around the plane, I could see that
nearly all the passengers were upset and alarmed. Some were praying.
The future seemed ominous and many were wondering if they would make
it through the storm.

'Then, I suddenly saw a little girl. Apparently the storm meant
nothing to her. She had tucked her feet beneath her as she sat on her
seat; she was reading a book and every- thing within her small world
was calm and orderly.

'Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again; then she
would straighten her legs, but worry and fear were not in her world.

When the plane was being buffeted by the terrible storm when it
lurched this way and that, as it rose and fell with frightening
Severity, when all the adults were scared half to death, that
marvelous child was completely composed and unafraid.' The minister
could hardly believe his eyes.

It was not surprising therefore, that when the plane finally reached
its destination and all the passengers were hurrying to disembark, our
pastor lingered to speak to the girl whom he had watched for such a
long time.

Having commented about the storm and the behavior of the plane,
he asked why she had not been afraid.

The child replied, 'Cause my Daddy's the pilot, and he's taking me home.'

There are many kinds of storms that buffet us. Physical, mental,
financial, domestic, and many other storms can easily and quickly
darken our skies and throw our plane into apparently uncontrollable
movement. We have all known such times, and let us be honest and
confess, it is much easier to be at rest when our feet are on the
ground than when we are being tossed about a darkened sky.

Let us remember: Our Father is the Pilot. He is in control and taking
us home. Don't worry!

Thank you magic. A very timely post in my life. Our summer, already very busy, has really revved up, and instead of being glad our friends want to marry on our beach and share their honeymoon with us, I have been lost in the details of making everything perfect.

Your post made everything click back in to focus. Rain or shine, inside my tiny home or out on the beach, our friends will be married Saturday, they will be held in love, and although things may not be perfect, they will be wonderful. I will put balloons on the front loader parked on the beach in front of my house if it is still there on Saturday. LOL

Thanks Andrew.

Nice to see you TOB. You have been in my thoughts a lot.
